Default tire and rim size question

Right now I have 31x10.5r15 tires on my vehicle and want to keep the height but go smaller in width. The rims are 7Jx15ET8, what is the smallest width I can go?

google " tire size calculator " . there are numerous sites that will let you enter multiple sizes and compare diameter plus or minus speedometer , etc

31/10.50's really recommend a minimum of 7.0 inches. I have many guys over the years who off road tons run them on 6.0's to get a bit more rim protection but expect them to center wear prematurely if you go that route.

265/70R15 would be a narrower tire replacement.

Haha! I just realized I read your question wrong and it isn't a narrower rim you want. ..

You are a bit screwed if you want to keep the height the same and go narrower. A 265/70R15 is still 10.4 inches wide but is a hair less than 30" tall so you will lose height and only be ever so slightly narrower. You used to be able to get 255/75R15's but good luck finding good those. Now a dead size. If it was me and you wanted narrower, 30/9.50R15 would be as good as it would get but would still be a 1 inch drop in diameter. You will do better switching to 16 inch rims. You would get better options then...
