Default How old are these?

Doing some cleaning of the storage room and come across some ammunition that came from grandpas old bachelor friend. Knowing this fellow they will have always been stored carefully and in a dry spot. Safe to shoot still? I’m guessing late 70s early 80s

As KBF stated , IVI made so it would be after 1975 IIRC after C.I.L. Was sold off. I have stuff I use that is another 20 years older than that and some older ,with no issues still kills birds dead!

If they were stored properly, they will be fine to use. I fired off some of the paper CIL shotshells a couple of years ago, without issue.

Post 1976. Check the bottom flap of the box. There will be a year marked inside a circle of numbers from 1-12 IIRC.

That isn't even close to old for ammo as long as it was stored properly. I have stuff that was made in the 30s and it still works great.

I gave away a 16 gauge to a family member with 11 boxes of identical ammo, well I got it back this fall and he use 2 boxes in 20 years, so I got 9 boxes to use in the future, plus I still have another 100 rounds in the ammo stash.

That stuff will still be good in 20 more years, just have to keep it all in a nice dry place.

Default How old arethese

I remember using Imperial 16 gauge ammo, made by CIL when I was a teenager. I think the old Imperial CIL stuff was the best shotgun ammo ever. That and the Winchester Super X ammo of that time. The stuff with the buffered shot was killer ammo too. A lot of greenheads hit the stubble from a long ways out when we were using that stuff.

Brings back memories of grabbing a couple boxes of those at the Mohawk on 16th Street in the morning before heading to Eagle lake by Strathmore.

For my Grandpa and I, it was at the Coop in Irma. Grap a couple of boxes, and it was game on! I’ll never forget those days.
