Default Nosler RDF for 500 meter Rams

Has anyone tried the Nosler RDF 6.5 cal. 140 grain for Metallic Silhouette yet? How did they work on the rams?

Not finding much on the web about these except for what Nosler has put out.

Also curious to hear if anyone has tried the Hornady ELD for the Silhouette rams?

Thanks in advance

can't see why they wouldn't work great from a creedmore minimum.
i use 162 eld's in 7 br with great success; when i actually hit them....

I am sure there is more then enough power there to knock down the rams' . My thought was they might have a little too much power and damage the steel or the shooters shoulder. I used 120 BT out of an old 93 Swede Mauser and they worked just fine

don't think you will damage the steel. i know a few guys are running 6 br's and 107's, but you need to be pretty good and and hit high for reliable knockdowns.
i seen a guy hit with a 162 out of a 7-08 in cranbrook last year dead center in the ram and it never moved! everyone took a turn on the spotting scope to believe that one.

That may have more to do with bullet construction rather then bullet weight.?

My 6.5x55 with 140gr. Lapua scenar will bunch holes in my gong at 700 yards. It is the only bullet which as done this and I have shot that gong with .375H&H down to .22 from 50 yards out but that bullet, distance comp plays heck with the gong for some reason.

P.S. I think some times the guys weld the rams down when your not looking

Funny as I was looking at the Lapua scenar when I stubbled onto the Nosler RDF. The reason I was looking around is I heard the rams did not want to fall at provincials this year. Lots of good hits but the rams only wobbled.

Could not go to provincials this year but in the past I have always used 140's for the rams. Just tempted to try something different.

Speaking as one of the guys in Cranbrook, you likely can't do better than the 139 Scenar. With those at 2600+, I have never lost a ram in Cranbrook. Or in PG or Missoula.

Have been so satisfied with the 139 Scenar I have never bothered trying the Nosler.

Edited to add: the 140 Matchking is also great but has gotten crazy expensive.

On the other hand I saw some miserable failures with the 140 Hornady HPBT Match on rams. A puff of grey, almost no mark on the rams through the scope and not a wiggle. Happened several times to my shooting partner.
