Default So excited ~ our first trail cam pics!!!

Hubby and I bought several trail cams a month ago. We set two of them out three weeks ago in zone 402 (roughly 25 kms west of Dutch Creek) and picked them up on the long weekend. Between the two cams - we had over 650 pics!!! Most of them were elk and I can not believe how curious they are! Only a few turned out where you could see the whole body - the rest were of their rears - heads - chests & legs etc.
Never in a million years did we dream we'd get everything from black bears - grizzlies - wolves - elk - moose and deer along with numerous rabbits too! I knew the animal sign was wicked in the area we went to but had no idea it was that good (there were pics taken each day). Pretty excited to say the least and I have a few pics here to share. We are hooked and those cams are the best thing we've purchased in a while ;o)

Great pics, I had a cam in 402, and someone decided they needed it worse than me. It was in a locked steel box.

Thanks everyone! We have camped up in that general area for the past ten or so years due to the vast quad trails. We are slow pokes though - always tracking and looking for animal sign and we get off our machines and do some foot work as well. We've known for many years about the numerous amounts of tracks and just recently within the last couple years - we hear the wolves howling. We have never - ever seen any bears or wolves but their sign says other wise (see elk the odd years but not as much as their sign). The area we really wanted to get back in on was too snow covered and we couldn't get back in there (right on the BC/AB border) so - we tried a few other hot places we had been to in the past. Our biggest fear was someone taking them (sullcat very sorry to hear about yours!!!) but we have found - no one seems to want to get off their machines and walk. We rode our machines in and then walked a few kms in. I was worried sick that someone would scoop them and that is why we only left them out three weeks. We don't hunt in 402 as there are just too many in that zone for my liking (we hunt in 404 which is non-motorized). I just wanted to make sure I was not losing my mind - I knew they were there but just never had the chance to see them and that is one of the main reasons for getting the cams in the first place.
Sanjuanworm - we bought three of these cameras from Cabelas about six weeks ago as they had them on sale. They are Stealth Cams and the model number is STC-P18CMO. They were $130 each and they came with eight batteries and a 4 GB SD card. They are very easy to use (I am very technically challenged) and I had them on the Med. setting. I highly recommend them.
Thanks again everyone for the kind words - I am still shocked at what we captured and can't wait to get them out there again! Hopefully - there is this much action in the area we actually hunt in!

That can't be Alberta. Grizzlies don't exist here lol.
Great pics. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully you don't see more people than ever now that the location is "published"

Be aware of the two foot camera thief...

Somehow they seem to lurk around...

I think you set your camera up on the outfitters salt lick. I did the same thing a few years ago. I thought I found a honey hole untill I caught the local outfitter dumping bags of salt beside the main trail that heads west to BC just south of tornado mountain.

Thanks for the heads up but we don't hunt this zone - we camp a lot west of Dutch though. The area you mention above is not even close to where our trail cams were or where we were thinking of setting them up. Our cams were put out west of Dutch Creek Campground but distance wise, you can't believe everything you read on the net ;o)

Can I quote this ?

I can use it to promote my mounts. They don't seal what they don't see.
Straps and boxes stand out, my mounts do not. That's about all I'm permitted to say.

Great pictures by the way. All I get on my cameras are Deer, the occasional Black Bear, a Coyote or two and birds. Lots of birds.
That's the price I pay for feeding birds all year.

Almost forgot, caught a Marten on one camera last winter. Not a good photo by clearly identifiable.
No Elk Moose or Grizzly Bears yet. They are in the area but don't come around here. Yet. I did see one Moose in the yard a couple of years ago, but we are not the sort or place a Moose would hang out in.

Thank you to all of you for the kind words and your stories as well - I sure enjoy reading them.
We set a trail cam out a few months ago in our hunting zone and I can not believe it did not get stolen!!! We had well over 100 pics of different folks hiking and wandering around. There were fifty or so of white-tail, mulies & elk though. Won't be going back to that area again! Have found another spot that looks promising so we set it up there - will check it in a few months and hopefully - no hikers!!!! Thanks again everyone - sure do love these trail cams!

Is it just me or does that second last bear have a collar on? It looks like something shiny there, but it might just be the small screen.

Could very well be collared.
