Does anyone in the Edmonton Area have barns with pigeons?
Hey guys. Need to catch some pigeons. I'm going to need a number of them, as I want to establish a loft with some homers, and have babies etc... From what I have heard, barn pigeons will mate and the young will become homers. If you have pigeon issues or know of someone who does, can you let me know. Thanks in advance.

Think about that. A pest control company gives pigeons (homers) away. I guess in a commercial application, no one can tell if the same pests reappear. Sounds like a good lead though? I was thinking 4H.

There's plenty of pigeons around Edmonton. How else would the Libs and Dippers survive up there?
Not too sure that you want any of them? Have you considered other options? Like rats?

I’ve tried it… squab. Not sure if it was same type as Edmonton pigeons…don’t recall the taste but couldn’t of been bad. I ate it.

We had some pigeon lovers that populated our farmlands with these pests. Absolutely detest them. Anyone who releases these should have 10 gravel truckloads of pigeon poop dumped on their doorstep.

Maybe he gonna race em, maybe train em to be carrier pigeons and send secret messages

You will need to keep wild Pigeons penned up.
After they have young then they will come back.

They are not a friend to us farmers that’s for sure. Two positive things I got out of them though. They have made me a pretty good wing shooter, and the horses are not gun shy at all.
SN2 I know nothing about the homing part. Only thing I might suggest though is talk to you neighbors if you live in town, and prepare to like to clean, because they defecate all over everything, often.

I wouldn't want to live next door to anyone raising pigeons, we had a pigeon problem in my neighborhood a few years ago, when hundreds moved into a partly finished home that sat for years with no garage door or inside doors. The pigeons had moved into the home, and it became a huge pigeon coop, and the neighbors homes, yards and sideways became a pigeon toilet. Finally, when the neighbors filed enough complaints with the city, and they were about to condemn it, the owner finished the home, and the problem disappeared.

Guys, my buddy and I are building a coop and getting a few birds, so we can have steady access to birds for training pointing dogs. I am not at all a bird lover. This is not a hobby. And I'm smart enough that they will be at my buddy's place, not mine.

The record bid for a racing pigeon was in the millions.
I’ve found 3 pigeon leg bands while metal detecting and you can contact the pigeon association to track down the pigeon owner. Fascinating hobby actually.
Pigeon is some of the yummiest meat there is and I’ll shoot them any time I get a chance.
Best way to catch them is in a barn at night with a long stick a garbage bag and a flash light.

Pigeons are no more vermin infested than any other game birds, and they are quite good to eat.

You're not wrong. I've cooked them up along side Hungarian partridge and would be very hard pressed to pick which is the better meal.
