Default Colt cap and ball revolver

This revolver has been in my family for a few generations, from what I’ve been told it was used in a slaughter house somewhere in Montana in the late 1800’s. It’s pretty much just a display piece now and to tell the truth nobody really looks at it. Somewhere along the line the front sight was filed down and from what I’m told my late uncle cut a few notches in the handle. Just curious if anyone on here would have knowledge on a value on it? And if anyone would be interested in it as collector item.

I don’t know the value but it’s a beautiful old revolver.

I can’t find anything on it but I was always lead to believe it was a .45. I put a caliber on the end of the barrel and it’s over .45.

Who wouldn't be interested in it?
That is cool as heck.
I assume it has antique status, so you can sell it to anyone, which will definatley make it worth more.

I think you should hang onto it, just because it has been in your family for generations.
Maybe the next generation will have more interest in it.

Post it on Canadian Gun Nutz, lots of knowledgeable people there who would know history and value.

1860 army or a 1851 navy the book on colt firearms would be a reference guide

look up a couple of colt forums they should give you the specs

not enough facts in order to make a determination

X2 Looks like the 44 cal Colt Army Model 1860. Which was based on the 36 cal 1851 Navy.
