Default Lead Shot

While cleaning in the basement I have come across a 25lb bag of 7 1/2 lead shot, and a 16lb bag of I'm assuming 7 1/2 but cannot read the writing anymore. These are likely from the 1980's, I have no longer any use for it.

Is it worth anything to sell? If so, what's a fair asking price.
thanks

Thumbs up

Someone who hunts upland might be interested 7 1/2 is almost a skeet load though ....... I can remember shooting them occasionally while pheasant hunting as a first shot shell followed by a couple of 6's depending on whether you had a double or a pump I can not remember what one paid for a bag I still have a bunch myself but it was not a lot or I would not have been able to buy it Seems to me a lot of it came from a plant in Cochrane

it's a great partridge/chuker size and not bad for roosters over a pointer either. As far as trap and skeet goes, I have no problem breaking clays on either course with 7 1/2's out of any of my guns including the muzzle loaders!

About 2.00/lb is the going rate on it as I've seen lately, saw some last week at 58.00 or so in Calgary, not sure what size bag, I would assume they haven't changed that.

Yup $2 a lb is the going rate, 7 1/2 is great for trap, skeet or sporting, I shot a lot of it as well as #8, really can't tell the difference, I just loaded 4,000 rounds with 7 1/2 for the upcoming shooting season, I don't have any more components or I would have already sent you a PM

The problem is in todays market by the time you buy primers, powder, wads and shot your cost per round is about .32 cents or $8.00 a box, if you watch the sales you can buy factory loads for less than that, Cabelas puts target loads on sale regularly for $6.99 to $7.49 add the tax and you still under $8.00.

If we buy in bulk and through the gun club we can buy Score or challenger target loads for around $7.00 a box tax in so it doesn't pay to reload anymore.

Price recently $48 from Hummason in Ontario.
Shipping to Alberta $8 to $10 per bag with an order of 20 bags.
$2 per pound for old stock is very fair.

Yea, reloading shot shells is really only worth it if you shoot a 16 or 28 gauge. I only shoot 12 and 20 gauge so I have never bothered.

I paid $50 each for ten bags of Superior Canadian #9 last summer. I load 28 gauge and 410 skeet loads, it doesn't pay to load 12 gauge, unless you want some type of special loads.
