Default Pre64 M80 upgrade

I have a m70 in 300WM converted from a 300HH and thinking of upgrading to modernize the rifle. Project gun for flyin moose hunt this year in a grizzly area.

I was thinking a new stock, maybe a barrel, mounts and scope but open to suggestions, including this is a dumb idea and I should just buy a new rifle.

I should add that I am a hunter not a shooter. Can't remember the last time I shot at something over 300 yards.

Thoughts?

Do you shoot the rifle well as is? What ammo do you use? Is the rifle reliable?

If the answer is yes to those questions and you’re using a quality bullet that’s shooting fine, I’d probably leave it alone. If I wanted to change anything, I’d upgrade the scope mounts and put a simple but durable quality modern scope on it. It would be a leupold if it was me.

If the wood stock is rough, you could spend some time restoring it yourself. I put a Manners stock on a pre 64 M70 years ago that I really like, but it’s tough to beat a good wood stock on a hunting rifle.

But if you’re bored and have some extra cash, go for it. Sky is the limit. Have fun
