W.W. Arcade for sure. Bought my .303 there as a 16 year old and brought it back on the bus... No one was concerned.

Custom Gun before Jack sold it to Wholesale Sports. Don't blame him, as he was offered good money, and moved to Kelowna to open a truck canopy manufacturer. I've lost track of him since.

Klondike when it was on 101st Street was phenomenal for guns and gear for black powder and western type guns. They had a group of guys that did the Klondike Days parade in style. I think they were the Klondike Posse.
Another shop out in the boonies between Lindbergh and Tofield was Larry Wilson's "Outpost." It was a little shack in his farmyard. Usually, you parked at the gate and walked in. He had the neatest stuff and lots of advice on anything and everything.

WW Arcade in Edmonton
I worked there. Staff purchases were 10% above their cost on everything they carried
In 1966 I bought a Scmidt 22 revolver. my cost was $20.00
The holster was $25.00 LOL
Sure miss that place and the people I worked with.

Ribtor when they were on Macleod Trail across from Raven's Dept Store.
Family friend worked there and he selected a cherry .303 jungle carbine for me.
It was $27 and I also brought it home on the bus - not an eye was blinked.

Also liked the "gun rack" in the east end pawn shops and second hand stores.

X 2 on Plainsman's. I bought my first shotgun from there in 1975, still have it tucked away in the safe for one of my grandsons. My dad bought a pile of guns from them in his gun buying days, I remember all the pictures they had above the gun counter of all there customers. I remember dad was in 5 of those pictures.

Dixons Gun Shop on Circle Drive in Saskatoon. I spent more time in the store than at school when I was a kid

I bought a Gevarm 22 from WW Arcade, took it across Edmonton on the trolley. Imagine no swat team to intervene, Life was great back then!

I grew up in Leduc, as a kid loved going into the old Leduc Sporting Goods. as I got older I got a job in high school at Taradam Sports there. It was a good time and learned lots about hunting and fishing. Lots of great memories and friendships came from working there. Sad to see it close back in the day.

Is Plainsmans Marksman's now?

Marksman's is where I've done most of my shopping. Bought my first rifle there. He has managed to keep a real gun shop feel to his business.

Simpson and Lea on Centre Street between 7th and 8th in Calgary. Harry Simpson was a fur buyer and an exclusive Winchester and Remington Dealer in the early 1950s. My dad was a friend of Mr. Simpson and used to drop in to shoot the breeze. When he was going there he never had to ask me twice if I want to go.

I also remember Ribtors and the old Russells. In the early 1960s Barotto sports was opened by the original owners Barry Deakin and Otto Krumes. My favorite was Bearspaw Sports in Montgomery which opened in the mid 70s. I was a loyal customer of Gun Craft till Pete died and Gunther sold the business to Russells.

I remember Big Country Sports and Manchester sports. Wolfes gun shop and Pioneer. Although I shopped at WSS and knew everyone who worked there, I never became a regular until most of the others went out of business.

One thing I am almost certain of is it is customers that follow the lowest price that lead to the extinction of some really nice smaller stores

Uncle Bens in Edmonton should not be left out.

Acme Novelty had guns and cheaper ammo.

Dottie at the WW Arcade had the inside track to a lot of wholesalers down east.
That irrated the guys from All Sports to no end.

The Hudsons Bay used to sell guns. Got some great deals there when they put stuff on sale at the end of the season.

Woodwords also sold guns, but became politically correct very early in the 70's

In Dawson Creek you had Wally Newmiller's Wally's Sporting Goods. Wally had the first ever ski doo in Dawson Creek.

Then there was Tommy DeCosta's Tommys Gun Shop.

And Corlanes was always around.

Jogged my memory. My first shot gun that I bought for myself was from The Bay in Calgary. A Browning Superposed for about $450.00.

My first cooey was from Woodwards at Chinook Centre in Calgary. $10.95.

A trapshooting buddy of my father was a fellow by the name of Tommy DeCosta. He worked for Simpson and Lea for a while then moved. Maybe the same guy?

Used to be Cherokee Sports in Blairmore where I bought a Sako years ago. If I remember correctly the owner was killed when his propane smoker blew up.
There used to be a good gun store in Pincher Creek. CAn't remember the old guys name but I bought a few guns from him.

Great selection in Dawson Creek growing up, they also sold rifles in Macleods. You could also get ammo anywhere Co-op, Marshall Wells, Revelstoke, and pretty much every rural store in the area.

I used to purchase many supplies from Stalkers Sports in Saskatoon. Bashaw Sports hasn't changed much over the years.

Last time in Edmonton I had the pleasure of meeting P&D and looking through their very fine establishment. On our way back to BC we ran out of time and didn't make the detour to Bashaw's.

Bashaw Sports and Fly's etc. are on my must-experience list.
