Default Burbot in Wizard?

Was out fishing on Wizard this Saturday, been there a few times this year and last and just caught the usual arrangement of jack and otherwise, but this weekend my uncle pulled out a fair sized burbot while we were only about maybe 100 ft from shore in only around 12-15 ft deep. I always thought burbot were only found in deep and large lakes?

Burbs are virtually in almost any lake you find the "prairie species" (walleye, pike, perch) in. They are not particularly sensitive to water quality or O2 as far as I know as I have caught them in some pretty shallow/low o2 skunky lakes (similar to Isle).

I've caught a few burbot in that lake, all in one spot.
Where did he catch this one?

About 80 ft off shore from the SW boat launch, roughly.

They are a cold water fish, living below the thermocline during summer in most lakes. A few large shallow lakes (chip is a good example) have sufficient cold water springs or inflows to support burbot where they would otherwise be absent. most of our larger lakes are deep and cold enough to support burbot.

Almost time to go catch some just a few more weeks...

Default Burbot in Wizard

They are in this lake. It seems that most are caught on the south side for some reason.
There were a couple of guys targeting them just out from the ski club last year and were doing quite well. It might be due to a small spring on that is located there.

Default fishing religiously

I've spent more hours then i can count on wizard and have caught probably about 12 or so in the past 3 years. (Majority are caught in feb-march) and around the campground boat launch haven't ever bothered to fish at night but can imagine it would increase your odds...
Usually woulda iced one or two by this time of year but nothing yet. Anyone have any betters spots on wizard for burbs? (And yes i know its closed feb1)
