Default 28 nosler

ive decided to do another build. Because I can never seem to get velocity out of the 7rm, I think I'm settling on a 28 nosler. I know it's a bit overbore, but if anyone can convince me yay or nay I'm all ears. I'm looking to create a long range heavy hitter to a 1000yds. I was really serious about an stw but my donor action is to short (264)

well there you go. it's the most performance you'll get out of a standard length action and still have the ability to stick bullets out if you need or want to.

also... 2.2 moa of drop at 300, 3.8 @ 400

i've dropped a few animals with mine now and it's my go to rifle for hunting.

i built a heavy and a light one and the heavy is much more pleasant to shoot. the light 28 was like standing behind a horse and smacking it on the but (sooner or later it's really going to hurt)

I'm leaning toward a #4 conture 26" with a boyds laminate. Thinking I should finish at about 9 1/2 lbs with glass. How does that weight compare with yours?

The other option is a 7lrm. I'm pushing 180 Gr bergers at 3080 fps no problem. No muzzle break needed the gun is very easy to shoot.

That was another option. Where do you get brass and dies?

Run a 7Lrm or 7-375 reamer in your Rem mag. Problem solved.

I've been looking at the 7 LRM today. It seems to be the perfect solution, I don't know how it's outperforming a 7RM but by all accounts it is. I'd be disappointed to spend a $1000 just to find out I've gained nothing. Are brass and dies available or is that something of a head acke

For hunting I can't stand a 26 inch barrel. Seems like the 7's like that 26 inch barrel though. I've tried two 7 mags with a 24 inch barrel but could do almost as well with an odd 6 in a 22 inch. No free lunch I guess. The 28 does look interesting though.

I believe grouse river stocks or did stock LRM brass and dies.

As long as the wife don't find out what I'm up to. The action is going in tomorrow. I'll see if Karl has a reamer for it. I'm on the fence as to witch one now

I get my 7lrm brass and dies from grouse river. The brass i believe is made by hornady but head stamped gunwerks. The majority of my brass has only been fired once so i am not sure what kind of life i will get out of it. I know on another forum alot of guys were saying 72.5 gr of H1000 and 3200fps. I dont believe it. When i worked up to 72.5gr i had extractor marks, +.002 CHE and loose primer pockets. I am currently shooting berger 180 hybrid target with 70gr H1000 and Rem 91/2 primers. Velocity is just a little over 3000fps and thats out of a 31" barrel.

For the price of the gunwerks brass for the 7lrm you can buy 338 lapua brass. If i had to do it over again i probably would have built a 7mm-300wm or a real hot rod a 7mm-338lapua improved.

I have had zero issues with the brass and i get it from grouse river. Got the dies from there as well. Im running a 26" benchmark #4 fluted barrel and like i said before i am pushing the 180 gr bergers at 3080 fps with no pressure issues. I believe my load is 73.6 gr of N570.

No issues so far as long as your not pushing way over pressure.

Checked on price for dies and brass. Took action in today for 28 nosler barrel. Barrel will finish at .700 at 26" 8.5 twist, I'm hoping this arrangement will give me the best of everything

I have a 28 Nosler for a long range hunting rig and love it. Very accurate and with the right setup recoil is minimal. I'm running the 195 Bergers and I'm getting 2979 fps. Brass isn't cheap but at least it's readily available and your not stuck buying it from one supplier like the 7 LRM

Are you going SAAMI or you gonna throat it longer for the heavies? I'd like to set mine up for a COAL of about 3.73" for the 195 grain Bergers. I bought a Wyatt extended box (cfe-12) for my Stiller Predator action to mag feed but I'm still undecided between the 28 Nosler and a 7mm Rem Mag throated for a COAL of about 3.627" in a standard length Rem LA.

That's still in the air as of now. I was gona stick with 180gr but that 195 is impressive. If it nears 3000 fps as slim 1978 says then I may throat out longer. Hey slim, what's your twist?and barrel length?

I'm running a 26" 9 twist and my coal is 3.550". In ever did run the 180 hybrids over the Magneto speed but they also shot very tight groups.

That's impressive. Any pressure signs at the velocity? What powder?

No pressure signs but it's not far off of them. Im running H1000 and have also had good results with Retumbo.
