Default Disposing old ammo

Have a bunch of old ammo, mostly shotgun shells, that got caught in a wet basement. They are all corroded, rusted etc so I don't want to bother trying to shoot them.

What is a good way to dispose of this ammo? I didn't think the dump was really the best.

Cut the body off the case and dump the powder , fire the primer In a gun and throw the powder in the toilet and the other junk into the trash

I had the same problem a couple of years ago.
Took then to my local community police station (EPS).
They took it no problem, didn't even have to give them my name.

Call first... depending on who is behind the desk, they can be a little jumpy

Cut open.
Fertilize your lawn or garden with the powder.
Salvage the shot by size, and re sell.
Toss the wads.
Put penetrating oil on the inside of the primers, and toss them 24 hours after a good soak.

Amazing how times have changed.
I remember back when I was about 15 (1969).
My dad had purchased 3 WWII Mauser's. Plan was to end up with one perfect gun by using parts from all three.
When he was finished he put the remaining two in the trunk, we drove to the West End EPS station and walked in and asked them to dispose of them.
The officer at the desk didn't blink an eye.
I sure wouldn't recommend trying that today.
