Spengler Cup Hockey Canada
In World Juniors gets you down, Canada is doing well in this tourney.

These guys seem to be playing hockey to win and have fun at the same time.

I don’t recognize many names.
Tomorrow morning at 7 am is the next Canada game.

These are guys who’s careers have moved over to Europe, some are high draft picks that never worked out, injuries ruined their shot at the big show etc. Make no mistake they are very proud to wear that jersey.

It’s decent hockey, atmosphere at the rink from all accounts is fantastic. Probably at a ECHL level. Dusty from TSN 1260 is doing the play-by-play and is doing a nice job of it. Certainly would be on my bucket list to go watch a few games at that tournament. Would be a blast.

Anyone of these teams would easily beat a ECHL team.....you are right though what an experience....

The hockey is far closer to the AHL level. The KHL is on par or better than the AHL and the Finnish, German and Swiss leagues are very close. Any of the teams in the tournament would hammer an ECHL team.

I would say play is in between a NHL farm team and the NHL.

I agree , lots of NHL draft picks playing there. Enjoying it immensely as we have family involved.

I would have to agree its somewhere around there. Probably closer to an AHL team (farm team) than the NHL. Looking at the best team in the tournament, Team Canada, they'd likely get beat pretty easily by a bottom feeder NHL team.
Moral of the story, it's still good hockey that's worth watching, if not just for those crowds!

Primarily small quick players that never could crack NHL rosters, career european elite leaguers, or players who have their best playing days behind them looking for that historical championship.
AHL level is a stretch. On NA ice, with NA rules, most AHL teams would win >90% of the time no question. Fucale our starting goalie is an ECHL'er and the 3rd stringer plays for the UofC. The NHL, KHL, and AHL thin's out the talent pool.
I love the tourney, quite entertaining, Go Canada.

Hockey Canada chooses them I believe. Scout Canadians currently playing in Europe mostly.

A KHL team is in the tournament and didn’t make the semi finals in a 6 team tournament. I counted 14 ex NHLers on Canada. I don’t see how a team with 14 ex NHLers that can handily beat European teams from the best leagues in Europe can be considered to be at the ECHL level.

I wish we could put an ECHL team up against this team.....I wouldn't take your money after this game but would take a nice meal and some brewskie's.
Canada is looking good this morning for a gold medal...MTF
