Default What ice fishing lines do people like?

Hi all.

Looking to replace my lines. It has been a long time so I thought I would shop. Couldn’t find any strong reviews online so how about reviews from all of you.

I see Trilene Ice Fluorocarbon Fishing Line comes in 4, 5 and 6 lb test. Any exercise with this one?

FYI...don’t want braid. I am a fluoro or mono guy.

I’m a sufix guy...yesterday I pulled in a 6 and 8 pound walleye through the ice on 6lb line that is just over 2 years on the reels....probably won’t change er out until next winter.

I'm a monoguy

Die-hard Pline floroclear, it's a copolymer fluorocarbon coated mono line.

I have had good luck with 4 and 6# suffix. Seems to handle walleye and catches perch.

power pro ice tech is a braid line i think he is looking for mono or fluorocarbon.

I have to reels with ice tech on it and i absolutely hate it only because its braid.

Fishing outside of a shack with it still sucks. It still absorbs water like a sponge and then freezes it. I dont see a difference between this "ice" braid vs a regular power pro braid beside the pretty color haha

Lots of sufix. Is it this one? Some complaints were line memory. Have you seen that fishing lighter hooks?

What strength are you guys using fishing for pike? I have 10lb braid on my reels right now but I see alot of guys using lighter stuff (6#, 8#). Wondering if downsizing would increase my success rates.

This one?

Any problems with knot breaks or line curl with 4 lb?

I am mainly looking for new mono or fluoro for trout and perch. 4-6 lb test range.

I use what ever line I have on my reel. To be honest i have no clue what make or brand I use.
I have some blue stuff it works good.
I have lots of clear stuff it works good.
I have some greenish tinted stuff and it works good. All my line generally is older then 5 years old and until it doesnt spool right or it breaks to easily I will keep using it.
I am not very helpful in this department. Even salmon fishing I usually just buy what ever the sales person says is good at the time, Sometimes it is good other times not so much.

Yes sir! thats whats in my fridge haha

Just like any mono line you will always a little memory. If someone says there mono does not coil then they are lying haha.

what i like about this mono is that once i stretch it out or my first fish always straightens it right out and it stays straight for the whole entire day.

Pline makes phenomenal fishing line. I wish our local tackle shops didnt stock entire shelves with only trilene, spiderwire and powerpro haha

I order all my fishing line online for this reason. Made in Japan!

IIRC the trilene ice is clear. I prefer the trilene cold weather mono in 8 lb, which is blue. Helps reduce tangles, easier to keep from stepping on it, easy to see it move.

I use a 2-3 ft, 4 lb vanish fluoro leader for perch, 6 lb for whites and walleye.

Basic Berkeley Trilene XL with a fluoro leader is hard to beat from a cost perspective. I’ve played with the more expensive ice lines and they all have issues when it gets cold. The PLine Fluoroclear is decent as well but stiffer in the cold and costs more.

The slight stiffness is from the copolymer design. Which will give it a little less stretch then the regular mono.

Yes that's it. May not be the best out there but I catch more fish using it now.

I tried floro this year, it lasted one trip and I dumped the entire spool into the garbage. Aint nobody got time to deal with the crap, it was a giant rats nest if you just looked at it funny. even with the bail closed it would unspool itself and make a huge mess.

Back to braid and will never go back.

Most just use the floro for the last 6 feet or so.

actually many use it on full spools now but only on bait casters.

Every serious FLW or bassmaster tournament boat has flurocarbon spooled reels for jerkbaits ect

Mainly for the low stretch and fast sinking.

Thats because Berkley (Pure Fishing) makes the Trilene and Spider and want everyone to buy it. Power Pro/Shimano/ and Sufix is Rapala and they all want to push it all.
