Question A question

If you go down some road and there are oil leases on the side of the road, I know you can't park in the oil lease, but can you hunt around it if it's fenced off? Like I was scouting down a road and was on crown land but there was an oil lease on site. Does that mean it's not actually huntable?

How do you know what's crown land and what's private land, leased land, huntable vs non-huntable? Are there maps that you can get for free or cost?

Get a county map from the county office of the county you're hunting in.

Crown land is crown land, lease or no lease. No oil or logging companies can stop you from using crown land unlike in the USA.

x2, if it's crown go for it. I often park at a lease, park it at the entrance facing out, don't block the way and no one will say anything. I often have a conversation with the operators and so far none have been negative.

But you need to know what's crown land, and what's private land.

This statement is incorrect, there are disposition types in the province that once issued the holder is allowed to restrict public access. These disposition types include MSL’s (mineral surface leases) SML’s (gravel pits) but there are many others. It is up to the disposition holder if they are going to make an issue out of it, some will and some wont.

IHunter outlines these areas in red as well as provides a general description of the authority in which the company can restrict access.
