That will work good.
I use buck shot swedged down to fit whatever caliber I need and as you are doing, a few grains of a fast shotgun/pistol powder.
Fired 20 rounds of it in 30.06 one time then regular hunting rounds to confirm grouping.
It had no affect on hunting load accuracy.

I tried to do this with handmade lead loads, made it to short to cycle.

I never worried about how they feed.
For grouse and ptamigan I just feed them one at a time directly into the chamber.

308 chicken loads. 30 cal round ball, with Trail Boss. MV 1000 FPS. I can put 5 into a dime at 20 yards. Rounds shoot almost dead on point of aim to 20 yards. Quiet, sort of like a cap gun, and work good for head shooting grouse while hunting big game.

I think why it didn't work for me the cast bullets are to blunt as to tapered.
