Default Can't decide between the two

I bow hunt in a very heavily bear infected area and I carry my Benelli M4 semi auto shotgun. I never had to use it yet, thanks to Almighty!!

My friends are telling me that you need to carry a 45/70 instead of Benelli M4.
They say you can also hunt with 45/70 up to 200 yards or so and it is better then M4.

I find my Benelli little cumbersome to carry but I love the gun. I never owned any lever action before.

what you guys suggests?

If you are comfortable with, and own your Benelli already, the conversation is over.

Now if you need a reason to buy a 45/70, I can't think of a better justification.

I think it's a great reason to go and buy another gun!

Seriously, though - it's personal preference. Whether I hunt with my bow, shotgun, rimfires or centerfires... I rely on my spray (and the Almighty!) for the bear infestation.

Staying aware of the surroundings is key; and if possible, hunting with a buddy so you have more sets of eyes and ears, and they can carry some backup for you, whether spray, shotgun or lever action.

As long as you are loaded with hardened projectiles (in either) you are good

Which can you run without thinking, in the dark, when you are about to get chewed on?

If you don’t have any experience with a lever, it’s not the right choice. If you want to buy one, have the money and time for training, and live in a place you can train frequently, then go ahead.

I carry spray while bow hunting and keep the 870 with slugs for packing meat/camp gun.
