Default New cabinet

http://alberta.ca/cabinet.cfm

Well, any thoughts?

Personally I think some of those people are misplaced. And some good ones were not included. Such as Dr Bob Turner for health and Marie Renaud human services.

Why would they put someone who used to be a school trustee in charge of health than education?

From what I have heard of our new environment minister, we probably have done as good as we could have done. Shannon Phillips appears to be a reasonable person.

Thoughts?

Going to be a couple of interesting weeks to see how this all unfolds. Not sure how the new ministries are going to work.

Yeah, but at least he's gone through many budget discussions in his 15 years as alderman. Probably the best pick of the bunch.

I would have gone ape scat if Loyola had been included.

oh ya totally qualified she is....

Shannon Phillips grew up in Edmonton and graduated from the University of Alberta with an Honours BA and Master of Arts in Political Science. After graduating, she worked with Jack Layton and the federal NDP as well as at the Alberta Legislature with the NDP opposition.

Shannon moved to Lethbridge in 2006 and worked in journalism and as a consultant before taking a position as an economic policy analyst. As an analyst, she works on issues related to Alberta’s economy: oil sands and pipelines, labour markets, government finances, and health care.

Shannon is a mother to two pre-school boys and lives in the London Road area of Lethbridge.

That was nice of you to quote Ms Phillips bio in answer to my question. I was wondering which ministry would take over wildlife?

I am guessing Hoffman got Health as it's such a biggie. She was the Chair of Edmonton Public Schools which operates with a billion dollar budget, so she does bring experience overseeing a large and complex operation. As for Dr. Bob Turner not getting it, that surprised me also. I am guessing that he may not have wanted it due to age - he's 66 - but that's just a guess.

Eggen got education and he is a former teacher. I thought Bilous was gonna get education actually, but both are well-suited.

I'd expect the ministers workload will be lightened by/spread amongst the other members of the caucus, giving them experience, while being supervised by these senior people.

You probably knows while the rest of us the reason we ended up with a dipper government was because people were sick and tired of the Tories.

We as Albertans have to live with this for the next four years, however, whose fault is that?

Social Work has been so under funded you might be amazed at how good they may handle expenditures, or they could go ape chit and spend like sailors.

Frankly more concerned about the 15 bucks an hour crippling small business, a carbon tax and the upcoming royalty fight.

Mr Carlier is minister of Forestry. Just wondering how the split would work. Just saw firefighters on news identified as Agriculture and Forestry.

Minister of Health is LGBTQ activist, free sex changes for everyone

Minister of Finance is social worker, probably can't balance his own checkbook.

Minister of Energy is a Teacher

Minister of Justice is another feminist social activist, could men get even more screwed in divorce court.

Minister of ESRD with a masters of art degree never been in the bush in her life.

I can't read anymore everyone is a social worker or some type of activist for some sick left wing cause.

Jim Prentice's fault, frankly.

Should not have called the election 'till next year, rode out the downturn to demonstrate he has the kind of guts Albertans admire, and ran less of an arrogant and patronizing and entitled campaign.

It was his to lose, and he lost it good, even providing excellent PR for the NDP.

What would have impressed me?

Someone with some times to the post she will be in charge of (referencing Phillips).

Sifting through her FB page and a couple other bio pages, I see nothing that indicates she has any credentials, let alone interest, in ERSD and its responsibilities.

Not overly impressed with the "community organizing" or "progressive" labels that I see thrown around there, too.

That's just me

So does the term ESRD even exist anymore? Cause they announced it as Environment and Parks. But the website shows esrd and it shows parks and Rec. also what part of forestry went to agriculture? Kind of confusing

That's my question. Neither site explains anything. Just stuck new ministers picture on Agriculture and ESRD. I believe F&W will be environment, but who knows. I know Forestry will be lost in agriculture.

Might have to wait until tomorrow for more details. Forestry was a large part of ESRD, so if they are gone that really guts the department formerly known as ESRD.

It makes sense to have the production or extraction Ministries combined rather than the regulatory environment once being part of the extraction ones. When Jeff Hardy first was formed there was a lot of objection to the fact that was formerly forestry, fish and wild life, environment was now dumped into one ministry with dual purposes.

I think is actually a good move to separate the two again

Agreed. I also look forward to having more Co's and wildlife enforcement than one person per 1000 sq km....
