Default Looking to hunt with some grown ups!

I'm new to Calgary and hunting and 41 years old. I did'nt persue it back in Ontario because of the lack of species and the restrictive regulations there. Last year was my first serious hunt and I did in fact drop a doe. I'm HOOKED! The experience was amazing. Trouble is that the crew I'm forced to hunt with, due to a lack of a proper vehicle and a good place to butcher my prize, are a bunch of drunks. It's a bad spot to be in when I want to be out there doing it but my life is at risk on the way home. I'd love to hook up with a crew that gets the enjoyment from the hunt, not the party after. I'm not adverse to having a beer with lunch during the dead time but JESUS. I've picked up a compound bow (PSE Stinger) and this month I'll be gettin' myself a 30-06. If any of you guys would'nt mind a tag along, I'd really appreciate a good, safe and successful hunting trip. I don't mind camping out for the weekend or renting a room near or in the WMU that we'll hunt. Be warned that I've still got a lot to learn about the sport but I'm a fairly good shot with the boomstick and I practice daily with the bow, I'll be ready.

I myself am in the same position as yourself. Recently, my hunting partner had moved away and am now in a situation where I have no one to hunt with. The only problem here is, is that you are in the wrong city . I am from Edmonton and I too feel the same way about going hunting for the sake of the hunt and not for the sake of trying to stack as many beer cans as possible. I started hunting six years ago, i also dont mind staying out camping in the woods and I also bow hunt. I am 45.

There was a thread on this sort of thing last year. Might be time to revive it.

I tend to be of the "hunt on my own" side of things (works well for photography) but the wife has heard too many stories of bad things happening out there. She came with last year but likely won't this year.

I managed to luck onto some friends last season and possibly this one who share a similar attitude toward hunting as I do (I really don't see it as "sport" or entertainment) but I'd certainly be willing to head out with someone else for the season.

I don't have much time (maybe a weekend or two, thanksgiving long weekend worked well last year) and I'm pretty frugal but even if I didn't bring a rifle I'd be willing to help out. Willing to share a heck of a honey hole too if you don't mind a 2.5 hour drive from Edmonton.

One of the main points of a discussion board like this (IMO) is for this exact sort of thing. Hooking up with others of like mind.

hi,

last few years I hunted mostly alone but I like this thread.
I don't mind going with a few guys occasionally but I try to avoid the guys that have seven beer for breakfast and loaded rifles in the truck at all times ( and I have seen both).

I'm in Edmonton and hunt mostly crown land to the North and West of the city.
I have a few properties where I had permission in the past.

I usually go and camp out for 2 or 3 days and cover some miles on foot each day. I also do a few backpack hunts if I can find the time. I haven't bow hunted but am trying to get into that.

I will send a pm to you guys.

Hello there Copidosama,
I may be interested in sharing that honey hole with you depending where it is located. What WMU is it in? I have a bunch of nice stands and some trail cams we that we could use. I live about an hour out of the city, we could meet at my place or in the local town and I could drive from there. Always on the look out for a new honey hole. Have a few of my own but just getting tired of the "weekend warriors" that think PRIVATE PROPERTY KEEP OUT! means no pick-ups or industrial equipment allowed but it is fine for them to jump the fence or open the gate and quad/walk across the field or cutline just before sunrise or half hour before sunset. I am also pretty good with a knife feild dressing, caping, etc. Let me know if interested.

You should have no trouble finding someone to hunt with, especially after you buy a 30-06

Your phone will be ringing off the hook!!!!!!

Make a trip to that Calgary meeting the guys are having. It will be worth it. I've met some pretty solid guys on this site.

I am new to the Edmonton area and am looking to hookup as well. Just me and my 20 year old son. We have hunted near Lac la Biche the last 6-7 years for whitetail, I will probably be up for a moose tag this year, my son used all his up last year. I have most gear needed except for a quad, sold it last year as it just sat in the garage.
