Default Black Powder Substitutes

Anyone here ever try Blackhorn 209 powder?

I heard that it is supposed to be everything that Shockey Pioneeer claims it is (but isn't)...although it is still corrosive.

It is supposed to perform en par with Pyrodex...have less fouling and so clean up a bunch easier than the others.

Darn stuff is expensive and hard to find but I'd like a bit of feedback before I go out and buy some.

I havent tried that one. I have tried (and still have lots) cleanshot, and clearshot. Both are non-corrosive, and use the same volumes as black. Sadly I think both have been discontinued.

It needs a lot of spark to ignite it. Be sure to use 209 shotgun primers and not 209 muzzleloader primers with it.

Ive used it with good success. Its worth it imo because once your sighted in with it, you wont use enough of it to drastically care about the cost. I agree re the WW209 primers too. Bought a case of it from prbullet.com last year and split it up with another forum member. My hunting doesnt have time for cleaning between shots.

WOW..

An honest advert from the manufacturer...who would a thunk it?

I had heard that it was a bit hard to ignite...but wsn't too worried. I have the vari-flame caps...and they did help tighten my groups a bit but, I find that I either can't get them to feed proberly through my capper...or I end up drop them in the field and they are lost forever...I just use the old 209 now.

I think I'll give it a shot...Cabellas is supposed to have it in stock in their EDM store.

After trying Pyrodex and Shockey's, I now use Blackhorn 209 exclusively and am very pleased with its performance.
