Default Favourite Fried Chicken

For those quick meals on the road back and forth from Hunting or Fishing, what is your favourite fried chicken. Mine is Mary Brown's or Popeye's. With them and the other competition I am surprised KFC can stay in business. MB's serves more chicken, a three piece box has at least 30% more meat in it, the chicken is moist, crispy, you get WAY more fries and they are about the same price.

If you answer other to the Poll maybe say which fried chicken in a post. Merry Christmas all!

Mary Browns hands down. And with every receipt 15% off the next meal. Hard to beat.

Mary Brown's is best that is available here. KFC is absolutely a gut bomb, you couldn't pay me to ever eat there again. A&W is marginally better.

I used to eat at Church's Chicken when I lived near Kansas City about a thousand years ago, and apparently they have them in Canada now. If they ever open one in Alberta, I must go. So must you. Absolutely superb.

Our local Co op serves fried chicken, very good if you get it fresh. They are putting the hurt on the KFC next door. KFC is not the same as it was in my youth.

Meg and Mels in Fort Nelson B.C followed by Red Barn in Moosmin SK.

St Paul CO-OP is pretty good as well.

I have noticed the KFC in Cold Lake seems to be way better then any other KFC I have eaten at the last few years.
Never greasy, tastes like it did years ago, and you always have to wait for it.

Mary Browns in Bonnyville is way better then the B'ville KFC.

Chicken on the way, Mackenzie town location., when i want wings this is where i go!, $1.60/wing but it's the whole wing so really they are basically 2 for 1 AND the way they cut their birds they leave a nice big chunk of white meat on their wings!, did this 2 days ago, 12 wings(barely got through half of them and was stuffed) and a home made salad!

YUM YUM Korean BBQ Bowness location! Spicy fried chicken like you haven't had before!

WOW Chicken Kensington on 10 st NW, expensive but amazing!

For Fried, I voted Popeye's .

If anyone is looking to try something new, try Garcha Meat Shop in Northeast Calgary. It's East Indian style and there is a lot of variety. The meat is already pre marinated, just take it home and put in the oven or throw it on the grill. Really good stuff.

We used to get our meat from Mann's but they kept the same selection for so many years. Garcha came in and really changed the game. Have you tried the green one?

If you like spice, also try the white Milai Chicken. It has a good kick to it. The Milai Chicken at Millwoods Meat shop in Edmonton is also really good.

Believe it or not, the 7-11 fried chicken is very good... at least as good or better than Chicken On The Way I think. Churches used to be my favorite but dont know if theyre still around.

Edit: That was the High River 7-11 but probably other locations are similar

I've heard people say that about the 7-11 in Claresholm too. Actually last time I drove through I was surprised to see a new 7-11 on the north end of town.

We don't have any of those outlets close enough for us to patronize them.

The closest is a KFC in Grimshaw, about 80 miles south of us.

I chose other. I make my own.

Chop up an onion throw it in a pot with a cut up lemon, salt, and some rosemary. Bring to a rolling boil. Cool this down and add your cut up chicken to the brine and marinate overnight.

Next day remove from brine and pat dry.

To flour add cayenne pepper, seasoning salt and pepper to taste.

take 2 cups of milk and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar or 2 cups of buttermilk

dip the chicken in the butter milk, then dredge in flour do this twice. Buttermilk flour, buttermilk flour.

Heat oil in a large pot to 350-375 degrees F.

add just enough chicken pieces to allow room to flip over. Cook for 12-14 minutes flipping once. Remove cooked chicken to wire rack and allow to drain.

Serve warm with whatever you like or cool and take on a picnic.

KFC in my area is soggy and pieces small. Not impressed. Use to be larger pieces in a big tub and crispy even after the next day reheat

Mary Brown’s in Fort Saskatchewan gets my vote. Find it is better than the MB’s in Spruce Grove.

Never tried Popeye’s but sounds like I have to.

Best chicken around Lloyd is from the Co-op or Alcurve 15 miles North, their ribs are excellent as well next in line is Mary's
KFC is disappointing small dry flavorless chicken pieces with watery gravy and wood chip fires.
