Default 450 Marlin Scope recommendations

Looking to put a scope on a 450 Marlin. What is the scope a guy should be looking at? TIA

1-4x or 1.75-6x

Leupold, ZEISS, or similar price point.

Something with plenty of eye relief. I ran a leupold scout scope when I had a 450 but didn’t like the reduced field of view. My 45/70 just has a peep now.

I really like the Leopold ultimate slam. 3 by 9 shotgun Muzzleloader scope. The reticle they use is decent for the 450 Marlin trajectory. I relief is very generous

I put a 1.5x4.5 on my marlin lever in 45-70 and didn't care for it. In order to look through the scope, my head had to be held too far up on the stock. Now I am looking for a good peep sight for it. Should work at the ranges that I am planning on using it for.

Another vote for Skinners. I have them on two Marlins. My 20' barreled 336 needed a taller front sight but my 22' 1895 uses the factory brass bead.

I agree on the skinner sights. I had the XS sights once and much prefer the skinner sight.

Scopes on most lever guns may be offensive but I’ve got a pair of legitimate 400 yard lever guns that I need scopes for those types of shots. I run a 2-7x33 leupold on one and I’m looking for a scope for the other.

I am using the same scope on my 1895 guide gun in Leupy QRW rings. If you load mild to say 1750-1800 fps the reticle works very well. Cheek weld is a problem- so I have a shell holder cheek rest installed.

Agree scopes are ugly on lever guns but these old eyes aren’t so good on irons anymore.

I had the same issue with my 45/70. I couldn’t see the iron sights anymore so I put a tang sight on it. After about 2 years I couldn’t see that anymore. It now wears a Leupold 2-7x33.
