$500-$1000 Scope suggestions?
Hi, no doubt this topic has been covered before....of course if it were the case we couldn't bring something up from the past......., we would probably have 90% less threads on here ;-)
Looking to upgrade to put on an A bolt 7mm RM. Currently have a 2.5x10x40mm Elite 4200 on it. Plan to use it for bush as well as primarily for open country with shots up to 400 yds (presuming my skills are up to it) for deer, antelope, elk etc. So, that is 2.5/3/4 x 10/12/14 variable scope or so i would think. I have done some reading of course but wanted to hear from the experts that peruse this forum as well.
Thanks,
Hill 60 Kid

Scopes.
With a price range of 500-1000$, you have quite a selection to choose from. Vortex viper is under 1000$, some vx3's and elite 6500's are under the 1000$ mark also.
I'd say look at a vortex, good glass and a good warranty.
All 3 of those scopes are really nice, just a matter of which one lights up good for you. The last scope I bought was a elite 4200 6.5-24x50 for my coyote rifle, of I had the cash I woulda gone with the vx3 4-20x50 by leupold, that's a nice scope.

Leupold is what I'd got with. Lot's to choose from in that price range.

Have a look at Sightron scopes if you get the opportunity.

go to the store and look through at least three brands. I use Nikon
Make sure they are adjusted the same and if possible take them outside.
Out of the 3, one will look terrible, if you cannot tell teh difference between teh remaining 2 buy the least expensive
As for power a Max of 12 for hunting but a max pf 16 for dual hunting and target
Be sure to get a side adjustable parallax, it will clear up the view on 12x at longer ranges

What is wrong with the 4200 you currently have? I'm in the market for a new scope and have been considering the one you are replacing. LOL Most of the reviews I've read of the 4200 are quite good.

Compare
One thing I would do is make sure you compare find a couple in the range you are looking to spend g to your store of choice and see if they will let you look in them outside, indoor lighting will effect how clear they look.

If you can manage it... something like is would be ideal.

I'd say go with a Swarovski or Kahles. Then you're set for life.

Thanks guys, some solid advice there for sure. I like the 4200 but could do with a little more eye relief and low light clarity/magnification at longer distances. Cheers.

4.5-14x44 Conquest would seem to be a good option in that price range and the new Zeiss Duralyt is an impressive scope at the upper end of your price range. Sales have been through the roof on the Duralyt. It compares very well to much more expensive glass. It comes in a 3-12x50.
