Default 7977 for 7mm rem mag

finally found a nice load for my 7mm with retumbo. As per the way my life rolls, as soon as I get a load I'm out of powder and of course no retumbo to be found. Now I'm back to the drawing board with 7977. As I can understand, it appears to have a similar burn rate as h1000. Does 67gr - 69gr seem to be a logical starting point? Anyone have experience with this combo?

I was going to try that powder in my .338LM. I ended up using Retumbo instead. But that powder has intrigued me since it came out. I may eventually try it. Sorry, I don't have any recommendations for you.

As far as Retumbo's supply goes, there's literally tons of it at Higginson's. It's priced at $270 per 8 pounds. If you have enough that you need (24lbs), you can get free shipping as well.

I have used it with good results in my 7MM but I can't for the life of me remember what the charge was in combination with a 150 gr partition. I will have to check my data when I get home.

Tried it out today, I'm shooting 162 gr hornady, loaded 67 gr @ 2950 just under m.o.a. 68gr 3000 fps just under Moa 69 gr 3040 opened up to just over an inch, primers starting to flatten. In my rifle accuracy could be a bit better with with 7977 velocity comparable to retumbo. This could be worth some more trials. So far I'm happy

Sounds great! Is that new powder as temperature sensitive as Retumbo?

I didn't think Retumbo was temperature sensitive, It is an extreme powder

Yes, Retumbo is very temperature sensitive. Rate of burn really slows with temperture drops. My poi changes an moa with every ten degree change in temperature.

I haven't found retumbo temp sensitive but I have noticed my e.s. varys sometimes out to 50 fps. I never loaded enouph to get proper readings on my velocity spreads, but if it will hold under 20 ill be switching to this powder. im hoping it will do as well in my 28 nosler. im trying really hard to just use a couple powders instead of a shelf full
