Default Load data for 358 Norma Magnum

Hello all,

I finally found some Barnes .35 caliber 225gr. TSX bullets and started looking for reloading data for 358 Norma Magnum which I couldn’t find.

Have you fellow shooters and hunters loaded and used this bullet in your 358 Norma Magnum?
Regards

Nosler data for their 225 grain Accubond and Partition. Should make a good starting point.

Thanks guys for the input. I found another load data and will start loading this 225gr. TSX with two powders. Hoping to develop a load with decent accuracy and velocity for elk in timber and semi open country.

What velocity were you getting with H4350? This powder is one of my favorite powders.

The 358 Norma mag is a beast . It's a great cartridge if you can handle the recoil. I have built 3 or 4 over the years for customers and still have the reamer . I wish I could handle the recoil but have become recoil sensitive . Good luck with yours.
Do you have factory brass ?

Used once fired 300WM brass. Did not have problems reforming the brass at all. I used expander balls of my 8x57, 338WM, 348, 358WM dies to gradually increase the diameter of the neck then finally full length sized it with the 358NM dies. After this process I meassured the inside of the neck and to my surprise it was exactly .348. Could not seat the bullets so had to flare the mouth of the case just a small amount and expander ball of my 9.3x62 dies (.366 cal) took care of it. I have to admit that I expected elevated pressures. So far I only fired Sierra 250gr and 180gr bullets using the data from the manual and Handloader Magazin and all was OK. The measured velocities were exactly what they were suppose to be. Today I annealed the brass and will start loading 225gr. TSX.

Yes, 358NM is a wonderful cartridge. I have no problem with the recoil of this rifle. The stock is nicely designed, fits me well plus I do have experience shooting bigger calibers then 358.

Is the neck thickness correct on your formed cases ? You may want to think about annealing the necks

Reloder 17 is your friend with the 225gn bullet in the 358 NM. It easily outperforms anything else.

78 gn of r17 gives 2,980 out of my 24" barrel with Norma brass and 225 gn North Fork or Woodleigh bullets. Not maximum in my rifle. A friend gets 3,020 wth 80 gn r17 in his gun and 225 gn barnes tsx. Work up from below these loads as always.
