Military surplus stores

Seems like 10 years ago they were everywhere. Now you have to really look for one. It’s kinda sad, I used to love going in and browsing around. Now I find it easiest to order online from Hero Outdoors in Ontario.

Anyone else have any good places to get surplus gear?

There’s no surplus anymore. Our government has taken to buying up the used equipment for our own troops it seems.

Might have something to do with the new breed of hunter who thinks they need whatever kind of gear that's being marketed to them when they watch the hunting shows. I've always used military surplus gear and its rugged and does the job well.

They are in Finland but shipping to Canada is only $14, but also be prepared to pay duty on your stuff. Still much better than anything local I have seen and their selection and pricing is great.

The one “surplus” store in Calgary I used to love has turned in to a museum of sorts, and a tactical store. Not much in the way of surplus anymore. I remember loving the $5 boots and $2 sweaters.

Wow some good ideas here guys. I used to go to supply sergeant but I found they always tried to convince me I was wrong about what I wanted and tried to get me to buy something else.

Frontier Firearms out of SK is moving to be an mainly online retailer and have been bringing in a variety of surplus items. They also have reasonable shipping and free item deals so check them out.

I actually found some decent surplus coats at princess auto today. Czech and Austrian issue.

Supply Sergeant was awesome before it moved into the mall. Found all sorts of cool stuff there back in the day.

Just put in an order. Hopefully the duty fees don’t bankrupt me. The descriptions and pictures are absolutely hilarious. These Fins have great senses of humour.

Have been to the two surplus stores in Calgary that are in close approx. to each other, before their collection of military surplus that was authentic was in abundance. Now one decided to turn into more of a toy store less military the other has more modern clothes less authentic military surplus.
Not that I don't mind the newer modern clothes, I just prefer authentic military surplus like olive drab uniform that still has name and serial number written in them.

Things military is good for shopping however I can't make it up there when they are open due to conflict of hours I work to hours they are open.

Supply Sargent in WEM, is good for when I travel up there, and they have some good authentic military surplus.
Never had a problem with the staff either.

I would still shop at 3 out of the four that I mentioned.

You aren't kidding.

The classic Ushanka fur hat, but not as dull and gray as before, these are new production stuff in the (second) most fashionable colour of them all - pure white! Comes with a removeable Soviet cockade.

Every man has to own at least one flannel check shirt. These really come to their element just about anywhere outside the office environment. Remember: if your flannel shirt does not have the classic check pattern, it's not proper and should be abandoned.

Cotton flannel must be the most comfortable fabric around. Still, it's reasonably thick and hard wearing, but pretty airy.

A good indicator of a product's desirability is the reception & reaction to it from the people working here. When these first arrived, we quickly had two check shirt gangs roaming around here: blue and red. This went on until our black Merino hoodies came around, and the phenomenon was again witnessed when the Oxblood hoodies were hauled in the warehouse. Well anyway, it's a good basic flannel shirt.

I think the Army Surplus in Calgary is still kicking. The one with the tail section of the Nazi plane crashed into the roof. Located in Inglewood near Kanes Harley shop. Bunch of artillery and other gear in the yard

Unfortunately they have gone to the new "urban" style tactical gear. They have moved what's left of the surplus items, blankets, jackets, pants and assorted gear to another ajacent room. Not much left here anymore.....

That’s Crown Surplus. That’s where we used to go. But as was said, the new owner has turned more retail, new equipment, tacticool store.

I laughed so hard at the video in this I almost died. Specifically the very end.

I made another order at Hero outdoors. All kinds of good cheap stuff. I’ll have to resist ordering any more stuff. Don’t wanna become one of those guys that wears surplus uniforms out for groceries.
