Default Rabbits

Question, Do you require a license to snare rabbits? I want to teach the kids how to set snares and prepare rabbit for eating.

you can snare rabbits on crown land. no permission needed. but there are specific types of wire you can use. no braided cable, only brass and i can remeber the max. gauge yoy are allowed.

it is all in the hunting regs

Also in the trapping regs

Couldn’t fit it in one picture but the gist is
Snares can only be used by registered trappers for taking fur bearers or resident trappers for taking fur bearers, or by general public for snaring hares as long as Wire is less than 20 Gauge and less than 5inches diameter

Default snaring rabbits

Remember to pick up your snares when you are done snaring. I had that problem on my line, where people were snaring, and then when the novelty wore off, snares were left. If I encounter the snare people setting or looking at the snares, I now drive up and get a photo of the vehicle and license plate and if snares are left, I go to F & W.

Default abandon hare snares

Yes,for sure a must to pick up snares when finished trapping,at one time common picture cord was used, snares that were lost or left would quickly rust out not the case now ,stainless steel wire will continue to work for years if not knocked out--many many times after snow melt hikeing in to trouting places would see the rotting bodies of fresh caught hares----
