Warmest Feb ?
Are we gunna set a record for warmest February ? Edmonton area for sure.
Not sure what the record average warmest temp is, was, but we gotta be heading for it.
10 day ahead forecast says every day above zero.

I would think so, creek and rivers that I have walked along for years are always thick with ice.... this year they are all flowing

Saw my first gopher today, I'm sure they have been up for a week or more now. This is good as there are a few hawks around that have never left all winter long. Very warm for sure and yes we could get some cold temps again but with the lack of snow here the suns heat doesn't get reflected back.

I remember 1988 having a warm February. Calgary olympics were taking place and if I recall correctly it was in the plus teens and low twenty degree Celsius range for most of the last half of the month.
I seem to recall March of thT year being more winter then spring as well.
February 2016 must be in the top 5 or 10 warmest for sure.

Last Tuesday evening I had a call for a leaking exterior hose bibb at a hotel: it was 9 pm, I was working outside in only two t-shirts and there was an earthworm wriggling up out of the lawn!
I recall a pretty warm Feb back when I was in high school, perhaps 1987.

Stats are interesting. In Calgary temperature weather stats have been kept since 1885.
So what does it mean to break a record.
On February 9 we hit 15 degrees. In 1926 it was 14.4. Could it of been 24 in 1656 or 1599 or 1782? We will never know.
However no doubt this gas been a warm El Niņo winter. Some years my auger was barely long enough to drill a hole. So roughly 3.5 feet thick of ice. This year there is 17 inches.

Apparently 2 people fell through the ice in Calgary yesterday. Sure feels like Spring but we are easily deceived, it's Alberta after all.

1968 winter was very similiar. I got transfered here from Winterpeg in October 1967. There was no snow here at xmas and the whole winter was mild. I never even unpacked my winter coat. I thought I had grown up at the North Pole !

It was on the news. They fell into a storm water pond. They were on the ice next to open water. They were not ice fishermen.
