Problem with my dog's foot...any vets out there who can tell me what this is?
My poor dog has this growth on the outside of her back right foot. I found it this morning when I found a blood trail on the floor. It has cracked and she has been licking her foot all morning...but by the looks of it, this growth has been there for some time.
Can anyone ID what it is? It almost feels the same as her other foot pads on her foot...hard and calloused...not spongy. But it obviously bugs her as she is limping a bit and sensitive.

Make your peace and don't prolong any suffering
If it can be removed with out loosing his leg your only buying borrowed time

Wow. Are you a DVM Tinda?
Who needs biopsies, laboratory tests by educated doctors and technicians, and hundreds of thousands of dollars of modern medical equipment, when we can just send a picture into an online forum and get the difinitive answer in seconds?!!

It doesn't take a genius to figure it out
I have been through this, and by the time a tumor has developed to that size it has more than likely spread to other areas.
But don't count on my theory, the love one has for a pet is worth spending thousands of dollars to find out what was visible to begin with.
Stare the horse in the face and call it a donkey if you wish bud because it doesn't change anything

There are things called benign tumors...
Take the dog to a vet. Get the tumor removed and tested to see if it is cancerous...

I see you are from Cochrane. Take her in to Kim at Big Hill Veterinary. You will not get a better Vet in my opinion.

Could just be an abscess. Maybe stepped on something, now it's infected. Go to the vet and see what an expert says. Good luck with the pooch.

My dog has something similar, at the vet last week she said it was Sebaceous cyst very common in dogs. Something like a pimple can be removed and tested my quote was $400-$700

Get her to the vet ASAP for a diagnosis and or biopsy.
Light tan colored dogs like yours a very prone to various cancers and sarcomas.
I do not use Bighill Vets anymore. Switched over to Arrowhead.
I hear good things about the home based vet at Highway 22 and 567 also.

I would go to vet, they can do a bi op and see if it is a hystositoma (spelling).
our dog had one in the spring. It gets a bit infected than looks nasty like that.
A course of anitbiotics and than it "ruptures" and went a way for our dog.
Hopefully the same for yours.

Or dr kobish, cochrane small animal clinic she is amazing and a 3 generation vet, she has removed huge tumors as Picts are on the wall in her clinic, we are on our third dog bringing to her, she is on of the most compassionate vets iv seen.
When we had to put our boxer down 2 yrs ago she was more upset than us it seemed..

Thanks everyone...
I have gotten a ton of good info here...and some good references of local vets to go see. I definitely think it is worth checking out to see whether it is benign or not before jumping to the conclusion that Charlie needs a bad case of lead poisoning from the .22
She is cuddled next to me right now...pretty content.

I hate it when I see a family member in medical distress and that includes my dog!
My 2 cents... in Cochrane too... not Big Hill as my experience with them is they see dollar signs every time I used to go there.
I've has great service over at Cochrane Vet Clinic. I've also heard that Cochrane Small Animal Clinic is good too. Hey 567 and 22. Just east on 567 half a
Mile.

Been down this road with my dog in 2010.
We tried EVERYthing,vets, medications.. identical to your picture
sore, started out the size
of a pin head(thought he got bite by a horsefly,ant tick.. then it progressed & morphed to over twoonie sized within 4mths.
Really starting stinking to high heaven (rotting flesh), wrapped it, applied medication from vet 3-4 times a day.. is almost a flesh eating disease from some kind of crawly thing i concluded..within 9mths of this all starting, amputating his leg @$900 was onyl option left.
Got another 16mths out of him, then he died
(9.5yrs total).
Odds are: your probably best amputating shortly, just my 20/20 hindsight.
(The biggest headache was getting dog to stop licking sore)

The picture looks very similar to a Sebaceous cyst that my lab had on his ear. Grew very large, very quickly, seeped and bled a lot. Had it removed. $375. No issues since.
As stated from others, see a Vet. Best wishes for you and your buddy!

You wouldn't want to jump right to the conclusion that it is a cancerous tumor right away because it could be lots of other things. If it turns out to be something benign you will have worried for nothing. If it turns out to be cancerous, you will need your strength and energy to be happy for your dog during the end of her life. I have a ten year old Lab full of lumps that are probably fat, but that could be cancer. As long as she's eating, playing and able to do her business outside we don't think about those lumps much.
Good luck at the vet. Lots of dog lovers on here reading your story sending positive thoughts and prayers.

My dog had one about the size of a raspberry on his front foot. Vet froze the dog's foot, cut it off,(the growth) stitched it up and the dog walked out on his own in 1/2 hr and cost us $90.

I had a dog that would get a growth like that every year or two, big orange pills would fix it up. Hopefully that's all your dog needs too, good luck Jack!

Wondering what the update on this poor pup is.
It's been three days...time to get to a vet and find out what is really wrong rather than waiting for a cure from a bunch of us who are pretty well proving we aren't vets.
