To avoid the one large clove it needs 3-4 weeks of cold according to Google .You can put dirt in a ziploc with cloves into freezer for a month. Then into fridge for 1 week and plant.
Im trying it so will see if it works.

All of these variables you guys question and argue about have more to do with your specific climate and WHAT garlic you plant. You need to be much more specific about your location and what variation you’re growing if you want to narrow this stuff down and get relevant answers to your questions.

I grow it here in the sub tropics and the coldest it gets for a few nights of the year is about 12 deg. I just have a limited selection of viable types to grow because the ones suited for cold climates or long days wouldn’t do well here. Personally I buy “Italian pink” from a local nursery when I’m looking for seed stock because it’ll grow through our winter with shorter days.

Some great looking harvests though guys.

Didn't work for me either, soil was too damp, cloves went mushy.

I’ll try planting mine in pots tomorrow.

I believe it’s hard neck red Russian. Got it from a coworker that grows it.

I suggested Saskatoon Farm in Okotoks area on the previous page. A bit of a drive, but, like I said, they had great looking garlic at reasonable prices.

As far as planting goes, it is definitely too early, imo. I’d wait another couple weeks (possibly more). Two weeks before the weather starting to turn is plenty of time.

P. S. Damn, didn’t know IronNoggin got banned.

I planted my garlic too early and some of it has sprouted. Will the sprouted garlic grow next spring or should I replant.

TIA

The sprouted garlic will be just fine, just put a lot of mulch around them.

I am not a gardener but was talking with an older retired fellow at dinner last night who has been growing all kinds of veggies and garlic just outside of Deadmonton for over 40 years. He's planting his garlic this week and does so every year round this time.
