Hard to tell without seeing it live! I would be suprised if this ram is 4.5, If that is a bad year makes more sense, if he`s 4.5 he would have been a dandy by 7!

I think what you are seeing is a false annuli between 1.5 and 2.5 annuli. It is common to see them between the 1.5 and 3.5 year age. I think it occurs as they ram transitions from living among a ewe band to living in a band of rams. While with the ewes, those young rams are the kings of the hill so to speak. Once they move into a ram band, those young rams are the lowest on the totem pole and end up taking a bit of s##t and abuse from the older rams until they figure out there place. I think it causes a slowdown in there growth at that point and it shows up as a false ring. Thats the theory I have anyway for those false annuli that are common at that age.

Probably in the freezer at F&W. Hope they fine them hard and they can't hunt for a good while.

Just Kamloops, British Columbia is all we've heard so far.

A friend just sent me a picture of a ram that a fellow from Sparwood shot near Salmo that looks like it may be the same ram or his twin brother.

Once again avoiding the good stuff for the sake of being colorless....

As is often the case this time of year, getting out is the issue.
I was surprised how little snow has accumulated so far. But things are in great shape for those who can get out this there for the last week of the season.
Watching Rams head butt, lip curl, and especially photographing this ewe volunteer a urine sample for a flehmen test made for a good day in the valley.
I also really enjoyed a discussion with a Parks officer whether or not sitting in a vehicle glassing the hills is considered "Hunting".
The rams are on the move, get out there sheep-hunters, enjoy!

Great pics Walking Buff , It is helpfull for a newbie like me to judge a ram up close in a Park or 44 yds away on a hillside. Its also good to know their getting interested in looking for Ewes. Hopefully i will squeeze a couple days in before it closes.

Duk Dog,
That 40 inch ram is awesome! That picture has got to be on the Mirror lake ridge, right? If so I have flown over that exact spot a dozen times this year. We took a couple of rams on the backside of the hill in the photo this summer.

I think your question is to be directed to " 25-06rem.model700" who posted the original pics. I had just quoted his pics and photos. Certainly nice rams though.

Have fun Pike, take more pictures than you think are needed.
Frans, the second pic shows the same ram. His tips really flare out. I think that tip might be starting to split from brooming.
Springer, any chance to spend some time up close to sheep is well spent. The more you look at them, the more comfortable you will become in judging the curl. Take a pile of pictures, they make a great reference tool. Even more imortant to me is learning the behavior and habits of these critters, I just like watching them.
Bambi, I'm glad to hear you think I don't work, pass the word.
The last thing I need is some idiot who only knows me from the internet to show up at my business looking to pick a fight.

Haha same thing you are! Except I dropped off a 3 year old at preschool and now am trying to let my wife sleep after a rough night with the baby!
Plans to get out tomorrow and Thursday, you see any pics of the rams shot?
