Default Rare whitetail sighting

So this last weekend my wife and I took our grandson to the lake for one of his last summer weekends before starting grade one. On the way I spotted a fawn whitetail deer in a small tree lined slough right beside the road. There was an adult laying in the tall grass. I turned around so the grandson could have a good look as it was only a few yards away. Adult stood up and baby ran over right beside mom---but when what I thought was mom stood up " she " had a four point rack. Very symetrical and four even points. So, OK it's dad, but when 'dad' became a bit nervous he raised his tail just before taking off and " he " was very clearly a SHE under her tail but with a four point rack. They took off out of the slough and across an alphalfa field with no other deer in sight, baby following close behind the horned mom. First and very likely last antlered doe I will see.

on one of the properties that I hunt there is an antlered doe every year. The first year she was a spike, last year she was a fork horn. I'm very interested to see what she is this year. I have some great video of her and she holds her velvet all year and doesn't rub it off. She is a white tail.

This reminded me of this article that popped up a few years ago from down in the states. http://www.arkansasmatters.com/news/...50817045831988

I believe I read an article in bowhunter some years back now, that had a story about a 9 point doe as well. From what I recall, the hunter had scouted the deer for years. She didn't drop her antlers every year, they just kept growing. That's all I really remember from the story. That would be a neat thing to see, but I can't say I'd be in a hurry to harvest an animal like that. Hormonal imbalance, or chemically caused birth defects? You never know??

Yah her antlers looked very uniform and were all covered in valvet. Her body apearance did not look like she was a very old deer. She didn't have the long skull and nose of an older doe. I would not target her for hunting but I'm going to see if I can find her and get some pics next week end. It was very cool to see though.

They'll have to come up with new pronouns for the deer too I suppose.

You know what, I was thinking this thread was going to be about seeing a "striped" fawn this late in the summer, but adding in the antlered doe is too much imagination for someone from Saskatoon, so you either believe the OP is full of it, or he believes his tale to be true. What sells it for me is the Grandson. Grandfathers have to stick together.
I believe you M. Would have been neat to see.

I had an doe in archery seasons few years back that would always come in with her fawn. She had a 4 or 5 inch velvet spike on one side and a velvet nubbin on the other. I hated her. Came in most nights and would bust me, wouldn't run off. Just hung around walking a wide circle blowing. I still hate that doe.

Ha....

This is the intimacy I love about hunting. Knowing your prey, and them knowing you. Good stuff....

51, You will keep the camera focused on the antlers for proof, not the other end, right?

Took me a while but I found a picture of that old battle axe of a doe. Pay no attention to the date. I'm to lazy to set them on my cameras.

The spikes still make it an antlered deer...would have to tag it as such.

How dare you gender identify a deer. Poor thing probably ran to his/her safe space

(^Sarcasm^)

Very cool find! Definitely a lucky thing to see.
