Default model 70 extreme weather question

Looking at picking one of.these up on 3006 for a donor action. Curious tho, would the 06 barrel be thick enough to bore out to the 35 whelen? Would there be enough meat left over?

My experience in this is. Talking with Ron Smith about this he said he feels much better if the customer is willing to spend the exta $100 and start from scratch. That way he can guarantee what you end up with. Starting from the metal used to how straight the hole is and the you would also get a better fit up as well.

Pretty sure there would be, although I can't confirm. But if the above is correct, and it's only an extra $100 to go with a new barrel, you could likely sell the takeoff for that, and she'd be a wash.

I once had Ron Smith ream a shot out Win M70 barrel in 264 to .284. There were still pits in the barrel so he then reamed it to .308 and fortunately there was enough meat left to do so. The newly reamed .300 win mag barrel on that rifle shot minute of angle with the first hand loads I tried though it!

Is there enough meat left in your barrel? Only your gunsmith knows!

I'd grab one in 25-06,...you'll actually be able to sell that barrel,...an '06 barrel would be a tough sell.

Bashaw Sports has a used EW in 25-06
