Default Mauser 96 bolt shroud re-work

Just picked up an Oberndorf M96-38 short rifle (6.5x55) that has had a re-do on the cocking piece and bolt shroud. Hard to recognize it as a '96 Anyone seen one like this before ?

I haven't seen one in the wild, but I have seen kits to convert the M96 to cock on open as well as kits to make the safety scope friendly.

Yes this was a common practice in the 70s and early 80s when installing an aftermarket trigger with safety in the rifle

The bolt shroud, factory safety and cocking piece were removed from the bolt
The safety was silver soldered at the front end of the bolt shroud in the fire position then the cocking piece and bolt shroud were ground cut or machined to the desired shape
