Should I dispose of these?
Howdy,
Packing some thing up and found these shells that I must have put in the box and completely forgot about them in the non-heated garage, where they stayed probably about 6-8 years. The blind side ones (black) look to be in decent shape, the other ones are worse - one with the rusted primer is definitely garbage.
Writing this, I am thinking I should dispose of them. How do I do so safely? I mean I can open them up and dump the contents, then what?
Another thing is I am not planning to hunt birds this year due to time being scarce, they would have to be kicking around until the next year, at least. So garbage they should probably go to.
Thanks.

I have shot far worse looking shells. With dogs shaking when they come back from water retrieve those shells would be the good looking shells in my current waterfowl case. Several years ago i found a shell on the edge of the water where we shoot frequently. Looked much worse than yours and i have no idea if it had been exposed to water for a week or several months. Fired just fine on next incoming flock

I'd shoot them.
Have you looked at replacement cost?

I’ve shot some rusted and corroded rounds that were 100x worse than that. Was at a range day in Iraq but everything functioned other than being real dirty. Those are in fine shape, if you want wipe them off and store them in a dry box until you can use them.

They don’t take up that much space so keep them or one day go out and have some fun when you get time.
Or find someone locally to give to.

Just make sure you have some clean shells with you when you go out in case one is a dud.
Shot a box of #2s at ducks last week that were that condition and worse. Had to wade in to retrieve a bunch of ducks because they worked so well.
