I was just wondering when everyone usually puts up their treestands. The past couple of years I have been late getting them up. How early do most people start?
I have set my stands up to early in the past. I realize that there are heavy game trails that are used year round but If you are targeting a specific buck remember that as the grain crops mature the deer will change there feeding areas from crop to crop. Usually for me they will move out of the canola and cereal grain fields and start to hit the pea fields. This isn't always the case but it holds true for the areas I hunt. I have learned this the hard way more than once. Now I try to find if the deer have switched there feeding pattern and set up on the access trails to the field. My luck has somewhat improved. Just my two cents.
the only stands I've set early this year are on peas. The biggest flaw with peas is that they are started to harvest them now and depending on how well things went with the machinery a field of peas can be pretty well picked over by September.
Most of mine stay out all year, but Im heading out tomorrow and Thursday to move a few and trim..... eesh, 9 locations and 24 stands to prep..... 5 days to do it in.
