Default Bushmaster Varmint AR

Does Bushmaster have a dealer in here in AB? Also what do you guys think of their varminter rifle? I'm, considering gettin' an ar style rifle for yotes and suchlike critters.

For the range yes, for yotes no.
Most if not all AR varients are classed as Restricted Firearms.

You can't use a restricted rifle on varmints?

Restricted firearms can only be discharged at an approved shooting range. They require an Authorization to Transport(ATT) which specifies securement, times and palces, as well as a provido that the route be the most direct.

This point should have been mad abundantly claear when you took your Canadian Firearms Safety Course(CFSC).

Unless of course you only took the Non Restricted portion of the course.
(keep forgetting this because I took it when both courses were together)

Well, we're well on our way to becoming a police state with that kind of a dick law.

Wonder how often it's obeyed?

Default AR Variants

This so called dick law has been on the books since the first round of "Gun Control "
While your cussing the Goverment of the day and current, you may also like to know the Remington VR is also on the Restricted list as well.
Rob
Troller thanks for posting some good info about what you can actually do and not the negative bit about what you can not do....if that makes any sense.

Well it's been that way for Restricteds more or less for about the last 30+ years, the AR varients being classed that way has been for the last 5 or 6+ years if I'm not mistaken.

Not wanting to debate the logic of firearms Legislation since there is none.(nor do I agree with them)

But it is the Law, like it or not, and the consequneces to breaking the law are definative and heafty. Break it and I bet you'll be facing way more than some Gang Banger, since you are licesnsed and likely leagally possess other firearms.

Lets see :
-Media will make hay of your getting caught.(feed the anti sentiment)
-Will loose your Firearms licence and all your other firearms.
-Be prohibated from possessing a firearm for 10yrs.
-Face a minimum jail term for commission of a crime with a firearm (latest CPC crime bill)[not plea bargainable]
-Get a criminal record, and be un bondable
-Have a biatch of a time travelling outside of the country

I cant speak for you, but for this Hombre it aint worth the risk.

How bout a nice T3 Tactical in 223?
Or a Remmy 700 VLS in 22-250?

Not all AR varients are restriced right now. This is your best bet, I think your only. I have one, they shoot nicely.

There incase you missed it.

The AR 180 series of rifle comes froma totally different design scheme than the 16/15 varients.
I also suspect that the 180's were missed when the classifaction changes were drawn up SHHHHHHHHHHH.

No, I seen that, but I was replying to the thread creator and not you. I felt instead of giving someone a whole bunch of information on why he can't do something he would like, I would give him an alternative to look into. Strange you would think I would reply to that little post you made when I didn't even quote you?!?

If you look around there are some companies have made ARs that are not restricted you have to do your own DD to find them. I do not want list them here as per all the people that would report them, some people are just into to much goverment intervention. But a freind of mine just sold his AR 15 and went to a non-restricted model. Look around there is still some great ones out there. The price is high but a really fun gun. Try to find a web site that gives you the rules to make a restricted firearm barrel lenth is very important, i think it has to be over 18". Here is one to start you off SHHHH dont tell anyone. this one is just a lead thrower but it shows what can be bought.

Good luck ever finding one for sale in Canada...

Swiss Arms Green, Robertson Arms, Armalite AR180B-2... Problem-plagued pieces of junk, IMHO.

Don't waste your money. Buy a real varmint rifle, or a real auto rifle like a Springfield or Bushmaster.

If you want to something really cool... How about an AR in 7mm-08? Check out pages 19-20.

That's not helping him shoot yotes or varmits seeing how the Remington R25 is restricted up here. I have had a 180B for 4 years now without a single problem at all. Right now there are 3 I know of for sale *shrug*

Volquartsen has come out with a new semi-auto. Comes in 223 or 204. I still don't know if they will be labelled as restricted or non. I'm thinking they won't be.
They are sending me their catalogue. I just might get me one in a 204. I need to find out who deals with them in Canada.
