I've never had to submit a deer head before. Where do you get the green tags? Should the be put in a plastic bag before placing them in the drop off freezer. Thanks

Out of curiosity, is Alberta doing mandatory testing or voluntary testing for CWD?

It's really picked up in MT and now all testing is provided free. You can either remove the retropharyngeal lymph nodes your self and submit them or go to a CWD testing station and have the agency do it. I'm not overly concerned about it where I hunt, but figure if it's being offered for free, I'd rather know as soon as possible if it does enter my hunting areas. Sooner or later it will unfortunately...

its super easy, just bring your head to the freezer, they have bags and the tags inside the freezer.

fill out tag, put head in bag, and walk away

I drove by AHEIA in Calgary the other day and they do not have their freezer out yet. My understanding is that the freezers come out mid October?

So assuming that’s true for all locations, are all guys that harvest mule deer in archery season just keeping the head in the freezer?

Again, also on page 3 of the regs lol.

You can also take them directly to a fish And wildlife office. Call first as I believe they are operating by appointment only due to the big bad C word.
