Round 2!...fight!!
Thanks to some tips from the seasoned vet's i gave the chronomids another go.
It's nice to see these nice tight asses.
The 1st few are a little thicker because I used a base layer of 1/16" silver holo tinsel and red black and lime green super stretch floss, then i started tying with a thread base and floss.
Again please comment correct critique criticize and shame me into a better tier.

I have now switched from floss to olive midge flash and red krystal flash, with a thread base, I am really starting to prefer the flash because when the light hits it it's like an explosion went off and the thinner profile helps keep the body nice and slender.

The ones in your second post are looking good. Much better proportions. Use these as your measuring stick and try and improve from there. What size hooks are you using? What are you using for beads?

I consider these much improved from the first go although they still seem a little thick for my liking, but that's just me.
Try to pay more attention to your taper. They will look better with a nice smooth taper. Your's seem to have a bump/step about midpoint of the hook shank.
They won't catch any more fish, but you'll be more pleased with how they look.
I've never seen beads like the ones you are using.

Nice job man!!
I think the "bump" is the quick dry finish. Yes?
And, the fish will not care one bit. I tie for function and not for looks. You have some winners there. The green flash ones are excellent early season hooks. Have fun!

I have found in all walks of life that perfection is a waste of time and is actually not achievable.
Keep the bodies slim and tight (whoo hoo) and don't worry about whether you have put on 6 or 8 wraps of wire, fish can't count!

I tried years ago to perfect a bloodworm. It was a lot of trial and error.

The fish won't care, but if you can tie a good looking fly consistently, when you are down to your last fly, the one that's slaying them, you want to be able to reliably replace it. Being good at the craft, makes that task a lot easier. I can tie a fly that pleases me and the fish, and I use less material and I take less time now than my early flies that, while they certainly caught fish, didn't catch as many, as consistently as the ones I now tie. And if you care about your work, improving in all aspects of that work, brings a level of satisfaction that makes walking back to the table a pleasure, not just a chore that you need to get done 'cause your flybox is low.

For your viewing pleasure...
And a new one i just tied, red utc 70 thread, black 3/32 bead, black floss, small gold ultra wire, and instead of polypropylene yarn gills i folded up some pearl flash.
And yes but I'm working on the tapering i have amazing vision and the smallest details can bother me , it will be a constant tuning of my skills pushing for performance and perfection ,but i can't also appreciate artistic freedom, sometimes the greatness comes from pushing the envelope and watching it bend.
I am absolutely hooked on tying now and my confidence is increasing.
Apologies on ao forums behalf for flipping the pictures...

very nice progression.Practice is what it's all about.Using small beads, metal,or plastic.Sometimes i put a drop of white paint on the bead, especially if i go small. Some times i just go with a thread head, blk. Here in AB.we are allowed to fish 3 bugs,so 2 might have weight ,or none of them. You would be surprised at the the descent of 3 flies.Have a look at buzzers ,intriging ties for what it's worth. They are a pain to tie....

Yup, if you like Chronies, you'll love buzzers, they definitely are more proportion oriented and will teach you a lot about it.
