Default Popper flies

I don't think we use 'em often up here but I just bought some to try 'em out. Does anyone know what species like 'em.

Don't forget goldeye. They are great in the NSR.

Pike close to shore over weeds.

Night fishing for trout with a nice bright moon.

Well some fish eat frogs so I would assume a frog popper would work

Fished for pike last week with bass poppers and did OK. The strikes are frightening. Not a classic trout head/tail rise. The were trying to kill the thing. Got 5 - missed 1/2 dozen or so.
The poppers used were tied on 1/0 hooks. Not all that dainty.

I was fishing for smallies in MB in early July but ended up catching a bunch of smaller pike. No smallies but I had a blast! I've tried to catch pike on poppers before without much luck.

The Bass Pro in Calgary has foam heads and popper hooks. Get some sharpies and epoxy or uv resin and you're good to go. I get the old lady to color them and I throw them together.
