Default Black Snare Cable

I bought a roll today for the first time. I always boil my usual snares in baking soda to dull them down AND get rid of any residual oil, scent, etc. What are Trappers recommending to do with the black cable if anything?

Default cable

Dave you will still need to get rid of the oil, so I would stick with the baking soda boil.

Hey Dave,

One of the reasons I started using and selling the black cable was that I was noticing my galvanized cable after a year or two was feeling a bit stiffer or brittle. I believe this is from boiling in baking soda, while your are boiling the soda is getting down inside the braids and actually breaking down the cable. Which in some case causes problems. My personal recommendation would be to slow boil in water only for 10 to 15 minutes to remove the oil from the snare and if old habits come into play, then only use the baking soda sparingly. The solo purpose of the baking soda was to dull up the cable and parts. The black cable doesn’t need to be dulled.

Thanks
Corey
