Default Mountain Rifle build completed

My southern Mountain rifle is just about complete. All that left to do now is replace some temp screws with permanent ones and toutch up a couple scratches from setting the stock pins.
She is a grade 4 curly maple stock, in southern Mountain style, browned steel trim, Flintlock. Barrel is 45cal , 1/66 twist from Green Mountain, 42" long 13/16 across the flats .
I did all the browning using laurel Mountain browning solution, and the stock is finished with Aqua Fortis and Tru Oil . The long barrel let me mount the rear iron sight far enough ahead that I can see it.

The lock needs to be browned , but that will come later when I have time to strip it and brown it.

Very nice work Petew. The lines and architecture look very good as does the wood to metal fit that I can see. Was does it weigh finished?

Very nice indeed Petew. You mention Laurel Browning Solution. Is that a cold blueing or slow rust blueing solution. I have a Connecticut Valley flinter kit that is awaiting my attention. I have an inventory of various slow rust solutions one of which is American Browning. The wood on yours.is absolutely splendid, mine is nowhere near as nice.

It is straight 13/16". Might do a swamped later on though. I wish we had some access to parts up here. Shipping is a killer on larger items like a full length stock.

That stock is beautiful to say the least. Really nice work, and you should be proud of putting something together like that. Great craftsmanship.

Very nice Pete, can't wait for the range report!
I've owned a number of mountain rifles and Pennsylvania style rifles over the years, but just can't like them to shoot as much as I like looking at them!
I am a dyed in the wool , confirmed Hawken/plains rifle type o' guy, even though the first muzzle loader I THOUGHT I wanted was in fact a Kentucky style!

Default smoke pole

Looks like a really nice piece of maple, and a fun rig to start a grass fire with. Well done hats off to your efforts. David.
