Define best. A rifle that goes from 1" to 3/4" off a bench by adding pressure is not shooting it's best with pressure. It won't be consistent. In your case, If that truly was its best you would have kept it.

It's best, as in the best accuracy that I could get out of it without investing considerable money. And while it did shoot sub moa every time it was taken to the range, by myself and the new owner, I don't trust that the point of aim will remain consistent in varying conditions, which is why my hunting rifles all have floated barrels.
