Checking pals.
Just got my first interested person to buy a nonrestricted rifle from me. I was wondering if you guys called the rcmp to see if their license was valid? I know theres no registry but we are still liable if we sell a rifle to some who may be using a fake pal which i must say doesnt look like the hardest license to fake. Any way just wanted to to what you guys do when you sell a rifle.

When I sell a firearm or ammo, I always ask for a PAL whether through e-mail or face to face. I've done my due diligence.

Nope, don't call for non restricted. I do ask to see their PAL though. If you/they aren't comfortable asking for a jpeg of their PAL, might be worth calling to see if the their PAL is valid and matches the name they give you.
Face to face, not an issue.

I always get the PAL#,expiry date, and full given name. Call the CFO,confirm its valid and continue on. If they wont give it to me,I say "see ya" and carry on. I usually find the CFO checks my info more then the buyers info. This above applies to internet deals...face to face I just have them provide it to me,quick look at picture and expiry date and then continue on with the deal.

On a non restricted sale no one is writing down my pal number. I will show it but its NOT getting recorded. If someone doesnt want to sell me a rifle because of it i will buy it some place else.

I am the same, there is no federal registry for non restricted firearms, and I won't be part of someone's personal registry.

So what is the legal requirement for someone selling or buying remotely?

If I see a PAL and the expiry date is still in the future, I am not legally required to call the CFC to verify that the PAL is valid. I am also not required to keep a record of who I sell non restricted firearms to. But you already know that.

How do YOU present YOUR P.A.L remotely when the transaction requires it?

I haven't been asked to present my PAL remotely since the registration for non restricted firearms ended.I have however presented it for the seller to see in person since then.

Showing PAL
If completing a deal that is not in person with meeting up not an option and need to check PAL you could do it a couple of ways. Face time over your phone or use a web cam and have the buyer show you his PAL, no licence needs to be copied or verified by CFO.

You just need to visually verify the PAL, if you're unsure you can ask to see a drivers license too. You can have them email you a photo of it if you want. If they pay EMT make sure the money came from the same person. If they seem sketchy just don't sell to them.
