Question I'm looking for a place to go...

Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me.
My husband and I and possibly another couple would like to go out for some survival-type camping. maybe even just a day trip. Something with some fishing, where we could have a small fire, maybe build a lean to and spend a night or 3 without being bothered or "rescued". We don't want to go too far out of the city, but far enough away. We are not going to party or make a mess or anything, we are going to be respectful and tidy. We just want a close place to practice for future backpacking trips.
Any suggestions??

"survival-type camping"

I had to open this thread to see what you meant by that phrase.

Pretty well looks like what I would call "camping"

But then now a days when people say "camping" they are often talking about going out with their ignoramus 5th wheel or motor home with the generator and satellite TV system.

The wife and I use a tent and even have the luxury of an air mattress. We cook on the fire or sometimes a one burner butane stove.

When I lived in Edmonton I used to drive west to the Edson area for hunting, fishing and camping.

Smile If you have a canoe?

If you have a canoe, the rest is easy. The part about the lean to, is not such a good idea anymore. Try a tarp over the edge of your canoe.

If you wait a bit until the mosquitoes are in full plumage, you will get an idea of how the voyageurs spent their summers.

The fishing can be great, and so is the experience!
