I’m guessing it’s just for things with actual monetary value? Have seen plenty of people buy the orders of first responders at Timmies/ fast food places and I never charged for coffee/soft drinks/slurpees when I work at the gas station.

They most likely can. It’s just gifts over x amount have to be reported

They won't even accept a discount at my store. If there is even the APPEARANCE of a conflict of interest they will refuse. Imagine how bad it would look if you watched someone hand a cop something and then drive away from a check stop or traffic stop. City cops I wouldn't be surprised if they have no policy preventing it.

I know them here, even from any of the 4 neighboring cities they are neighbors, friends, we play ball and hockey with them, they aren't strangers. Likely a different story in the cities though.

Correct me if you think I'm wrong but after quick read of the above mentioned articles I would think one would not be in the wrong offering a member a gift card or perhaps a sugar glazed donut for appreciation of a job well done. I can understand why they will not accept gifts though based on the ambiguity of the artciles listed above. If you want to turn me in for offering a person a small gift of appreciation you're probability of being arrested for being a total nut job would likely be much higher than mine due to my offering. Good luck with that.

Im staying with my buddy who is a cop in Edmonton. He said he would never do it. A coffee, yes. A gift card or anything with money value ESPECIALLY at a check stop is a big no-no he said. He doesn't accept anything just to avoid the possible trouble. The checkstop one would be the worst idea possible and he said any officer that accepts something at a checkstop is opening himself up for a world of trouble. They also have to report any transactions like this aswell. He said its just not worth it in the end.

I went out of my way to help 4 officers xmas eve. It was nothing to write home about, but I never even received a thank you from one of them. Its like they think less of the average person. Entitled and arrogant. No I will not give them a warm timmies. Id rather they be cold

That's what my buddy the cop said. He always thanks people for buying them coffees at tim hortons but that is as far as he goes in accepting any sort of gift. He also mentioned that its his job and doesn't really understand the need to be given gifts as he chose the line of work.

No enforcement officer should accept a gift of any nature. It is often mentioned in the operations manual. It can be a cause for dismissal.

Usually not allowed. My company has a policy that we cannot accept a gift or anything with a value greater than $25. That includes lunches or other meals. I presume most agencies have something similar
