PHUffssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
That's the sound of the air being let out of a bull elk...by the G5 striker tipped Bluestreak after sent on its way with that perfect hit sound on a watermelon....
OMG what an weekend...had to snap out of a bad September, where I lost an uncle that was my mentor on fishing and being on the water ironically while he was fishing and a squall came up and capsized the boat while fishing, this was on the anniversary of my brothers death on another bow hunt years ago.. and head into a full out power hunt..
.wholly crap power hunt would not describe what I saw...the second phase elk rut hit and hit hard... After a four mile hike in the pitch dark ...stopping occasionally to listen to the bull elk bugling right at where I parked my truck ....already three miles into the hike...I decided to make my way to my well constructed wood blind in the exact right spot ...it was in the right place and I would make it there at the right time...a good half hour before legal light...
Gang I saw dozens of elk ....that passed by my blind at 10 yards or less...had bulls bugling at 5 yards causing my hat to rise as all my hair was standing on end...my heart was pounding so bad I almost got sick....lol what a rush...
it was crazy they just kept coming...I thought I was dreaming...as the bulls all stopped at 10 yards broadside... One big six point...that's six on one side as he only had one antler...a big single six on one side...the other side wasn't broken or damaged it just wasn't there... But his nose didn't get further than six inches from an old cow elks rump...she squatted and peed all over around the blind sending the bulls into a fury...she came running right up to the blind and stuck her head in...the bull right on her tail ..goosed her with his nose and I thought she was coming into the blind...he was only feet away and had no clue I was there...or simply didn't care...ha ha
Like a dream they kept coming in waves ... ¼ of them goofy spikers and one or two big elk in each wave...I literally had my choice of bulls...6X6's and 6X5's constantly stood broadside at ten yards... I thought if I should wait for the monster bulls that I know will be at the last of flow of continual elk...then I remember the steak off my 403 P&Y bull a few years back...that was like chewing on a piece of shoe leather...So I said to my self the next bull that's bigger than a spiker that is still an eater gets it...
Well in the perfect dream as if on clue he comes trotting up and stands there broadside at less than ten yards... Aiming wasn't much of an issue ...as I just put the whole sight ring on the X... The Mathews HeliM sent the G5 striker tipped Bluestreak on its way with that perfect hit sound on a watermelon...the arrow passsed thru and stuck deep in a little dirt mound beyond. And in the perfect dream he ran up to the pasture trail ...where it is a piece of cake to bring my truck...and had a dirt nap right there... As I stood over the perfect eater bull and gave thanks...bugles still echoed around me with the last stragglers coming by... It was a good day..
Neil..

Congrats Neil. Sounds like the kind of hunts that dreams are made of. I'm glad to hear that a guy like you, who has selflessly contributed so much to this forum is being rewarded with such a great hunt. You deserve it.
I'm also sorry to hear about your uncle, my condolences.
BTW what is that white thing in the pics? Looks like an egg??

Thanks Gang for all the kind words...means a lot!!
Zulu...The white mound is actual tiny air bubbles..it was much bigger....the shot litterally let the air out...
