Boyd’s quoted me “about” $30

Yup, never, ever should you ship from the US via UPS, unless you're desperate and willing to get hosed on brokerage fees.

Why pay them extra for something USPS does at a much lower cost.

Yep for sure, learned that when I ordered from Stockys. Just have to wait longer with USPS.

I'm looking at my receipt from Boyds right now. I ordered two stocks so shipping is a little more. Shipping for 2 = $71.65. Then it was shipped with USPS and I'm pretty sure I paid the $30.00 at the post office when I picked them up.
US dollars was a bit of a hit but I'm very happy with the stocks any way. They look great and fit perfect. Go for it. You won't regret it...

By the way Kurt, what rifle do you want the stock for, if you don't mind me asking?
I did a lot of looking and research and ended up buying four stocks from Stockys and Boyds.

It’s a stock for a CZ 455, it’s called the pro varmint.

I don't think Stockys has anything for that gun.
Boyds has great service and I am very impressed with the stocks. I ordered a Pro Varmint for a 22 and a Prairie Hunter for a 22-250. Very good quality and dropped in perfect...

Stock was delivered this morning. Wifey sent me all of the shipping info.
Stock was shipped USPS

Postal charges and fees (paid to Boyds ) - $44.95 US.
Boyds charged $60 CDN

GST (paid to Canada Post ) - $9.75 CDN
Handling fee (paid to Canada Post) - $9.95 CDN

That's for 1 stock.
Total time to receive the stock was about 3 1/2 weeks.
Total cost for everything was about $275 CDN

edit
Fun Fact - Boyds used to call the Pro Varmint stock the Tacticool. Import to Canada was not allowed.

Does boyds put sling studs on their wood stocks, or is that a do it yourself job after it gets here?

Studs are in. They're ready to go and very nice. Go to the site and build what you want. You won't regret it if it's a laminate stock you want.

i see they have a walnut option, is this a true walnut hardwood or is it a laminate that just looks like walnut? a true walnut stock would be much lighter than their laminate options.

That's a true walnut stock. They're really nice. I think they're about $55 bucks more. I almost got one (Prairie Hunter with fleur de lies.) Very nice! Google Images..type in Boyds walnut stock. There are some good pics of them.

I emailed Stocky's Stocks today and they do ship USPS if you ask them to. It only has UPS on the website though. Cost to ship is about the same on their end.
The exchange rate is a killer right now though. I really want a new stock for my Rem 700 but that USD to CAD detail is making it tough to justify.

Cheers

Default Boyd’s stock update

I placed the order directly through Boyd’s on Feb 13, was shipped Feb 20, should be at the Canadian customs by Monday. We’ll see how long it stays in lockdown.

Default 13 Days!

13 days from when I placed the order until it was at my door. That’s fantastic imo.

Real easy to deal with and extremely helpful.

I couldn’t help myself and had to paint my brand new stock. I was a bit apprehensive at first but I think it turned out good.

Thanks Score, it was really easy too. I just happen to have those two shades of grey kicking around the house so I ripped the green scrubbing side off the wife’s dish sponge and I figured I’d try to make it match the paint job on my other rifle. I think it might even look better, lol.

I have the same stock and I was just going to leave it alone until I saw the job you did, then it got me thinking....

I could always spray it black again if it didn't work out.
A couple of my stocks have several layers of paint on them, lol.

My son said, "You and your arts and crafts, Dad. Now they look like nerf guns"

Lol, I’ve done a bunch, some turned out good, some well...... like you say, they got a few coats

The trick is, don’t saturate the sponge and I tore up the edges a bit so it didn’t look blocky. It’s easy to over do it so don’t put too many blotches. Mine is borderline on being too much I think.

Good luck and post up some pics when you’re done.

This one turned out pretty good, it was my attempt at predator camo.

The stock looks way nicer painted, good job Kurt. I’ve enjoyed my dealings with Boyd’s.

Ps. I think we’re doing the same puzzle! Mines not done either, haha.
