My fire/waterproof gun safe got moldy
My fireproof gun safe got moldy inside.
Anybody had this problem? The safe is located in dry room and I had a bag of silica in it.

Where is your safe stored. You obviously have a humidity problem.

Mold is not just caused by damp. Lots of types of mold will grow fine in very low humidity, though all types of mould do grow faster in damp conditions. Clean the safe out with Bleach to kill the mold spores, keep it dry like you have been and watch for new mold growth.

Weird.
Got 3 safes across Alberta. Never worried about it and never have had a problem.
Berta is perfect for guns
Water leak somewhere ? Near your safe ? Very subtle

Hmmm strange.
It may be more of a problem of being sealed to tight and putting damp items in the vault.
Desiccant is only good until it can’t absorb moisture anymore so needs changed regularly.
If there is air movement so moisture can escape it won’t stay damp long enough to support mold growth but if moisture is held in for a longer amount of time because the gun cabinet is air tight it will support mold growth.

is it from eastern canada, because ive heard those french safes retain almost everything
those silica doodads have a shelf life and will not adsorb moisture indefinitely.

Did you happen to put a rifle in there that may have had snow or rain on it, without drying it off ?

Roger
Those "French safes" don't work that well. Look how populous Quebec is!

No. But probably didn’t open it every months and never changed silica for 2 years.
After reading manual for the safe learned that I was supposed to open it every month and replace or put in stove to dry out bag with silica
