Default Nother' bush buck.

Another timber buck, taken still hunting a ridge. He looks a bit bigger in the picture than he actually was.

The neat thing about this hunt was I got to share it with a fellow AO member who'd never really hunted like this. My companion only had a doe tag, otherwise I would have let him shoot it if he wanted. This particular buck played out exactly as I described, pretty much almost in real time as I explained what we were doing and why... "We're going to climb this ridge and hunt along that edge... see how this deer crapped while it was walking, its not concrete but thats generally a good sign its a buck... notice how his tracks are offset, not huge but probably fairly decent, oh there he is!" I have to admit it made me look a lot more pro than I actually am LOL.

The takedown was the exact opposite, I shouted at the deer to stop it when it bounced out of its bed. Then I used deer calls to confuse the heck out of it at which point he tried to circle downwind, and I dropped him en-route when I was able to find a hole in the underbrush to put the bullet through. I think it sort of blew my companion's mind a little that the whole sloppy episode worked at all, moral of the story don't give up the minuet a deer snorts at you.

I concur Cat! I think tracking a deer is more challenging but it somehow lacks the elegance, or "art" if you will, that is good still hunting. Just my opinion, though perhaps I would feel differently if I were a better tracker. I can track a moose like nothing, but whitetail are a far more difficult beast to catch up with.

Congrats

If the conditions are right I enjoy still hunting but with the crunchy snow the last while I would rather park my butt and wait. I just get way too frustrated when I can’t keep quiet

Nice story and great to take people out. Beautiful looking deer, lovely dark antlers. Any more pics of him from a different angle?

No other pics, I was sort of in a rush to get my buddy hunting again, in-fact if he had not suggested it I would have forgotten completely about the picture. I sent him on his way and dealt with the deer, then tracked him down again afterwards.
